hm...this seems like the type of conversation to be featured on the other forum, not the yard.

i'm launching the "Preserve the Yard" campaign.

maybe it should be "keep the yard" or "guard the yard" in line with dan's wonderful products.

I think most of the whingeing about the business practices can be chalked to frustration. who hasn't felt disappointment due to the knife they wanted being unavailable for some reason? I found out about Busse knives later than many, and I know there are literally tons of INFI out there that I'll never own. it does make one a bit misty. not that I'm saying anyone has license to complain, just that the tendency is understandable.

for all the complainers, it isn't easy, but be patient. sock away a little rainy day money until you can buy something nice secondhand, or there's a new release you fall in love with. my yard hook was initially intended to be a blade to hang on to for a while then flip for a SR mini mojo after it appreciated, but now there's no way in hell I'm letting it go. who knows, maybe you'll find out that something unexpected is what you wanted all along.

Why do you prefer SY over Busse/Swamp Rat? Is it the value propsotion?

As Dan calls it "Price-to-Performance ratio". I truly believe the SYKCO is the best bang for your buck. I really love the Respirene C handles too. Why would I want one Pig when I can get five Dogs? Im greedy I guess!

That is why SYKCO was created. Some people want Busses, but can't or won't pay $300 for a knife. I don't plan on buying any more Busses, but you never know. There are so many good Rats and Dogs, I may just stick with them. I like the Res C, too.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I am quite sad at not getting a Tan 6 but que sera sera.

I totally like what Kraz said about a US factory that is doing well.
You can't compete on price with slave labour but they can't even come close to competing on quality.

I like my Voyagers. I have a couple of fixed fixed blade tantos as well, that don't compare to the fixed blades I've been getting lately (Busse family, RAT knives, Ranger... etc... for about the same prices some times).

I have a couple of Voyagers too and they seem pretty good for the money. Years ago, I picked up one of the San Mai tantos and while I thought the design was nice, on mine the execution was flawed. The two outer layers of steel were of different thicknesses. When I called Cold Steel about it the girl said, "Oh well, they're all different." Hmmm.

Mr. Bill Old guys just know stuff! and, Old guys just have old stuff!

Nothing like great customer service.

Thats another thing that comes w/ Busse family, RAT, and Ranger, etc. - is the best warranty in the business. Thats no small part of the reason that they get all of my business now as compared to mainstream knife companies.

What do you guys think of that new carbon being used by Cold Steel called SK-5...I am thinking of getting one of their Kukhris made in that steel.

I know that it is 5/16" thick and about 12" long, I wish I had got one when they were still made of Carbon V, but hopefully the SK-5 is just as good?

it must be decent, sog makes their most expensive bowie out of sk-5.
cs has also been using it on their bushman for years which is well liked.
