Hello, I recently discovered the world of Busse/SR/SYK products. I own a S6 and should have a DF on the way. I've been lurking for a bit, and it appears that everyone who owns either of those two knives is extremely satisfied (this helped settle purchasing the DF for me ). You have a nice forum, going here.

A couple of questions: 1) What exactly is the relationship between the three companies (Busse/SR/SYK)? It seems that family members run all three, but the products are distinct, along with the management and logistics. Can anyone shed some light? Can't say that it's obvious from the web-sites. 2) Are the products roughly comparable (controling for differences in steel and handle materials)? From everything that I've read, it appears that you can't go wrong with any one of the three quality-wise. Thanks for any clarification provided!

i would say all three are ran by jerry busse. you may notice sy and srkw sell similar models. sy has stated their production runs the same models as srkw to keep costs low

Jerry Busse - Runs Busse Combat Knife Company, was the first one.
Jennifer Busse - Runs Swamp Rat Knife Works, is Jerry's wife
Dan Busse - Runs Scrap Yard Knife Company, is Jerry's brother.

BCKC - Uses INFI, best of the best, top notch steel, no money spared for ultimate performance. Micarta/G10 handles normally. Able to order a large number of variations of each blade, you can customize your order.

SWKW - Primarily uses SR-101 (Crash Rat still SR-77) Middle of the road, excellent performance, Micarta handles primarily with some G10. Some variety of each blade, however you have to pick from what is available.

SYKCO - Primarily uses SR-77 (One blade previously released in Infi) Absolute best bang for the buck performance. Extremely tough blades at hard to beat prices. Res-c handles. Up to this point, knives are offered black with black res-c handles, no variety and no options.

Gryps,
Thanks for NOT lurking anymore! It's much more fun answering questions.sharing information, photos of knives, vacations etcetera.
If you have lurked for anytime at all like you said the Dog Father is the absolute beast of the knife world. It eats any and all items.

This blade would make a hatchet run for cover and a Axe blush with envy.

It is far and away the best bang for the buck in the knife world. Mine has groomed my entire yard, and cuts several hundred pounds of Pine tree limbs with ease. Sharpens back up to arm hair sharp in seconds.

Only bad hing about the Dog Father is they don't make them now.Secondary market is the only place to find one. But just you wait Gryps, the next Scrap Yard blade will be out by October I'll bet and YOU will be here reading the post that Dan Busse makes 48 hours before and then 24 hours before the sale of the next offering.
Save a little space on your card for a blade! What ever it is it will be worth twice what Dan charges for it new. He's a sweetheart like that!

Welcome to The Yard Gryps!!! Enjoy your stay!

Peace.
