Pine branches, can't beat em!

Don't do this on public land...

for one it's illegal (except in emergencies then, of course, by all means)

and for another its a real [censored] thing to do because all the low branches end up getting plucked near all the good campsites and it slowly makes a place that would have continued to look pristine look like a human infested dump.... and as much as you may have thought you're "way out there" you're really not, people, regardless of how remote, excepting for maybe in Alaska tend to camp in the same spots... the dry sheltered flat spots with access to water and nice views.

DEFINITELY don't do it high country near tree-line... each branch you cut may have taken 40 years or longer to grow... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I am a huge ounce cutting/slashing individual when it comes to packing gear. When I have to sleep on the ground I carry a thermarest. The ultralight model. I find the increased level of sound sleep makes up for the weight gain. The deluxe thermarest for basecamping is pretty close to heaven. I carry a patch kit, but I have never had to use it.

I use a german army sleeping pad, its just as thick as the US ones but folds up into a very compact square
the also act as a frame in the german rucks that I have!!!
they are really great but they are really hard to find in the US right now but you can find them in stores across the pond if you dont mind paying shiping
but is still ends up being only $15
they really are the best
Do you know of an on-line supplier?
