that is cool and no batteries, I knew GIs made little radios but I did not relize the were powerless

I’m not gonna try to view the video over dialup, but I’m guessing it’s a crystal radio. My Dad helped me build my first one when I was five. Look ‘em up on Google or Wiki or something if you want to read more about them.

Used to make those from quartz, a frozen oj can and copper lamp wire (stripped). The key is antenna length...the more the better. I ran mine from the house 2nd floor window to the garage. Good stuff.

I used to have one that my dad made for me when I was a kid.

They used to sell crystal radio kits too, don't know if they still do though... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I think they still sell them at Cracker Barrel with their old timey toys.
