They are about the same just not identical. 01670 is an anhanced, chrome vanadium steel. What it has that 1095 lacks is nickel, chrome and some vanadium. 1095 is still a great steel especially for the outdoors due to ease of sharpening. Going with Ka-bar is a wise choice.

The Brute also had an "anvil" on the spine for batoning. When Camillus went under, I had two BK-1 Brutes on order. Of course, that order never got filled. I was able to score one BK-71 Combat Utility (desert color), 4 BK-2 Companions, and 2 BK-10 Crewman Utility knives before everything sold out. Last month, I got a gently used Brute off of the Bladeforums Exchange; I paid about $30 more than the ones I'd had on order would have cost, but far less than I've seen them go for on "that auction site".

The Brute is a VERY nice knife, I don't have a Dog Father to compare it to, but that's the size class -- it was almost like a tactical cross between a straight blade and a small khukri. The only minor complaint I had with the the Camillus Beckers was that the handles were bigger than I found comfortable, but they were manageable. Good to hear that they're coming back.

They will not fit the hard sheaths with the micarta, so I left my Brute stock. Here is my little Becker collection. They went out of business before I got around to the smaller ones. The Patrol Machete:

A Becker necker in good stainless (there must be some GOOD stainless!) would be a handy knife indeed..

I'm getting a Necker just as soon as Ka-Bar makes one, and I'm quite sure they will. I like 1095 fine, but one in 440C would be nice.

Great set Vic - you said you like the BK9 better? It looks beefier than the Brute - how much thinner is it?

Can you reprofile the micarta to make it fit the sheath?

Those are some fine looking Beckers HD. I love the classic carbon steel with the Extreme handles. I never did like the extreme blades though. S30V is a bad choice for a chopper.

Love that BK-7 ,is that clip point stock or has it been altered in the third world grind shop? Either way it looks incredible.

The Necker is definitly going to be made and I will be picking one up.
The Patrol Machete will not be made because there simply are not grinders long enough. They simply don't make things like they used to. Now instead of a skilled machinist on a lathe or grinder you have a computer running a CNC machine.

Ethan gave out some tantalizing hints on BF. The most interesting is one new knife will be made of (drum roll please) 5160!

5160 is not an easy steel for knife company's to use because it is oil hardened
rather than air hardened. I think it will be either a Camp Knife (or scalping knife) or possibly a satin Necker.

He also is considering using A2 which would be freakin awesome!

I can't wait to get a Necker and a Chopper - great stuff. I hope he brings the Micarta grips back around.

The micarta is actually thinner than the plastic, so it doesn't fit the kydex snugly. I like the Bk-9 Combat Bowie because it chops better that the Brute. It is 3/16" thick and the Brute is 1/4" thick. The grind on the Bowie just seems to work better for me.

Unsub: I ground sharpened swedges on both the 7 and the 9 during the "Dumpster Mutt Leads to Madness" frenzy. I love my Beckers. They caught some hard use until the Scrapyards came along.
