I just bought this anvil cheap at harbor freight. 110 lbs, good ring to it. and it is made in russia. I hit the 55 lb one made in china at harbor freight and it made a thud. this one rang high and clear. 59.00 dollars on sale regularly 89.00. Next to get a forge.

Nice score. I am amazed at how much you use an anvil.

I feel sorry for the table though.

Here are some photos of classic forges.

Sorry it is sideways but you can see the heavy use the anvil has seen.

I remember reading that the chinese anvils from HF were crappy but the Russian ones were pretty good. Not quite up there with the antique ones but way way cheaper. It is not like you spend all day making horseshoes either. Imagine how much work it took to do that to the anvil in my sideways photo?

I have a little cutlers anvil made from a railraod tie.

I will move it to another table before I pound on it i assure you Usub.

Yea they can come in handy when you need one.

I used to work in a spring shop where we measured, cut, punched, and tempered our own spring steel, bent the ubolts and reworked the springs. Hard hot work! swinging a 12 or 16 pound sledge hammer.

Nice score on the anvil, I've been looking at those myself. I've got an old 55 pounder that serves me pretty well but I've always wanted to upgrade to something a little bigger and heavier.

BTW, I've got mine mounted on an old cut off tree stump. It makes a pretty good anvil stand. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
