Well Dogs, I survived my daughters first date to her homecoming. I drove her and the date to dinner and then to the dance. I did take a few minutes to show him my Dog Father and assorted other ScrapYard’s. At first he thought they were cool and then he got surprisingly quiet.

Patti would not let me clean my 45 in the living room while he was here but the knives worked just as well. I think I am going to build permanent display and hang it on the wall right by the front door.

It just does not seem right to have a daughter dating. Like they say; if it doesn't kill ya...it makes you stronger. This kind of strength I do not need.

Any of you Dog's have any coaching points that I can use now that this has started in my life?

Seriously though, you showing him your knives was a great move.

One of the most beautiful stories I heard about a Father and Daughter is how this one father took his daughter on her first date himself.

How he got her flowers, took her to a great dinner place and made her feel like Ultra-Princess of the universe and then after it was over he told her;
"That is how every guy who takes you out should treat you!"

She said she remembered it fondly for the rest of her life and made sure all boys/males treated her the same...

Dan, I have a two daughter's in their early 20's now. I've gone through the same thing twice! Sounds like you got started off on the right foot. Once my girls got brave enough to bring one home to meet dad I took him to the gun range. Didn't make any threats, just a fun day at the range. They got the point after looking at my target.

I always had a house full of teenager's, my place was the most fun to hang out. I always fired up the grill and feed them. They knew they would have a blast as long as they followed simple rules. If Dad was home the boys could go in the living room and kitchen. If Dad wasn't home the boys stayed outside.

You started GREAT!! I was once told there were only two kind of people who knew everything there was about raising kids. "Those who didn't have any and those who had one and got luckily."

Just be an active part of her life and get to know her friends as much as possible.
