So out of both of those which kid is the better cutter and which is the better fire starter. Lastly, which would you rather have with you out in the woods and why?

I would love some more info on the NWA like who made it and what NWA stands for?
Is it Nives with attitude?
I really want to a see a face of between the new MuttLE or Urban and the Ratmandu.

Unsub,

I did a little research on NWA.

The maker's name is Nick W. Allen - Initials NWA.

He doesn't have a website and apparently hasn't made a ton of knives. He has sold what he makes on Bladeforums.

Here are some other pictures I found:

Bladeforums - Forum Knife 5" blade:

Two Drop Point Scout Variations with 4" &5" blades:

I would prefer the guards at the lower Ricasso be a little different - bring the blade edge in closer and less drop in the guard or something (????). Not exactly sure how to improve, but it seems a little off at that spot.

I am probably a little weird about my little critiques of such details. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" /> - I think the guard at the lower Ricasso of most Scrap Yards, Swamp Rats and Busse's are a little off to me as well. Talon Holes seem like a waste of otherwise usable knife to me. I prefer less guard and choils closer in to the handle for more functional use (to me anyway... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> ). Or no choil and bring the blade edge in very close to the grip.

The SS4 and Bog Dog are very good. The Ratmandu is pretty good. I have reshaped many others. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" />

But, aside from my potentially overly detailed critiques about guards, the NWA's are very nice looking knives! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I would like to hear more about edge holding, toughness, etc.

One thread mentioned they come with a good edge and the flat grind cuts very well. But, I have found very little info other than that.

very nice, I really liked the NWA bf blade but the offering was made after the bf W&S was announced so I hopped on the second one first. And now it seems to be taking longer than he said! (where have I seen that before??) thanks for the shots bo <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

For me it was the other way around, I signed up for Nicks blade in March and then I saw the 2nd one from Wolfforge. Of course I couldn't resist and also ordered it. His last post claims delivery next week. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> In time for Xmas.

I don't have the tech specs of either knife, they used to have a thread in the W&S but it was deleted once the ordering process was closed which is a pity.

Thats one thing I like about the Yard,Dan waits until after he has made the knives to sell them. If I ever get good enough to charge cash for the knives I make I would do the same thing. It is sure a good looking NWA knife.

Knifeguy I think I know exactly what you mean when I have a knife that gets all the proportions perfect. Oddly enough the 2 nives that have the best blade to handle junction are my 10$ mora and my 450$ Kirby Lambert custom. The Lambert is a folder but it is perfectly balanced.
Thanks for answering my questions. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

WhichDawg & Bodhi,

What are you two talking about? .... sounds like you guys are speaking in code.

What is W&S?

I re-read both of your posts a couple of times and determined "Wolfforge" must be another knifemaker that offered another Bladeforum knife. After doing a Google search for Wolfforge (limited to Bladeforums.com - domain), I determined you might be referring to: Ken Nelson - Iron Wolf Forge (?????)

I found one picture of one of Ken's knives on Bladeforums (that did look nice!) and no mention of any forum knife.

I found this:

[Linked Image from i80.photobucket.com]

It appears Ken uses 1095 and 1084 - don't know what else.

Within Ken's forum name, I found a link to his web-site.
IronWolfOnline.com

It also appears Ken does a lot of wrout iron decorative stuff and not much in the way of knives. Based on his web-site, I don't see enough to make me feel significantly confident in the performance of his knife offerings. But, the knife pictured above (although rough around the edges) still has a very cool look to it. - The guard again looks a little off to me, but I guess art and function are in the eye of the beholder (???)

He also had what appeared to be a nice looking reproduction type Bowie, but the picture was protected. Some of his other stuff ..... meh.... a little too "Renaissance" for me. But, again, to each his own / eye of the beholder and what-not....

Here is a link to his gallery:
Iron Wolf Forge - Gallery

I will say that the two iron/copper (????) flowers under "Kitchen & Household" stuff are quite impressive!

From perusing through his web-site, I get the feeling/impression that Ken has taken the Renaissance - Blacksmith thing to heart and as a way of life (????).

--------

I am interested in seeing and hearing more about Nick's other offerings. And more about the quality and performance of these knives. Nick's knives look like nice knives at reasonable prices.

Any more pics, links, or similar for Nick's NWA knives?

.

Wilderness & Survival subforum of BF

The knife that Ken offered for the forum is more traditional looking, the thread was deleted so I can;t show any pics.

Looks like a great experience for the kids and a great set of tools to use learning. I think Nick makes a great looking blade and I have always liked his designs. A great set of blades there.
