Here is my opinion:
The secondary market is what makes this distribution system work without dealers that would buy ALL THE KNIVES and mark them up before ANY of us could buy them. The reason the secondary market is necessary is that it makes it a no brainer to buy a knife that you can not see before you buy, because you know that you can get rid of it if you don’t like it. If you limit the sales to just one knife per person so the market is satisfied then you just might kill the secondary market and then the distribution system no longer works. Like it or not that is how it seems to work. And since all the Busse related companies seem successful I wouldn’t expect anything to change. It is a great way to do business because they carry nearly no inventory.
And in some respects a guy that hordes knives helps that system work.
but that's the thing. the buyer essentially becomes the dealer. in fact you can see a whole bunch of the same people wheelin and dealin on BF. that's ALL they do. it's sick. i don't care WHO marks up the price. as long as i feel like i'm getting "cheated" i will not buy. and the reason all the busse companies do well is because of their great products.
Also as you can see right now with Wardens that the guys that bought tons of Orange & Muddy Wardens and are now trying to make a buck have caused the secondary market to weaken a little. So if I miss out on a knife I HOPE some guys have bought 12 of them so I can get one when they realize that owing $2,700 worth of Tiger Wardens is actually kind of stupid. If everyone just was able to buy just one or two I’d never get one if I missed because I was out of town or something.
everybody that REALLY wanted a warden has one. that's why they're not selling. market saturation. but even if the buyer sells at cost, the fact that he had 20 GW's at one time is unnecessary to the final buyer. had busse offered these as a regular item we wouldn't see these prices. and since it seems busse made a ton of these wardens i see no reason why they weren't offered as a regular item to begin with.
another factor to consider is that while they may not sell now, they will sell later. i see a lot of new busse fans all the time. ones that are either rich with a lot of disposable income or just a lot of debt. either way these newbies will buy these older discontinued items for a pretty penny. so this DOES give buyers incentive to sell at a later date when demand is high once again.
the main problem is the existence of a system that will let these resellers thrive. the regular busse protocol where the item is available to order and shipped at a later date is the BEST system. yes you wait a long time to get it but as long as you know it's gonna be a while you've no reason to get mad. this is essentially a preorder system. they do NOT charge you until it ships so you have lost NOTHING!
there should be no complaints if you are well informed of what happens. the reason people complained in the past is because of the "2 weeks" joke. newbies or people that don't frequent the forums actually expect faster shipping. and if you say 6-8 weeks you better have them in 6-8 weeks. if you cannot guarantee that DON'T SAY IT!!! i know it's not that simple but being upfront is KEY to keeping people happy. don't be optimistic with the delivery dates because you will just end up making people angry...
