The 57 chevy analogy is not a good one. At one time anyone could buy one at retail. The current hysteria comes from the GW and Second SS4 sales. There was time to buy an SS4 the first time around (maybe not alot of time, but time for me to decide three times to wait, my mistake). There was no problem getting a FBM, a BATAK, an M6, a S6, or HRLM. The only way there will be a problem getting a DF is if the buyers get greedy and buy large numbers to speculate on them. The 57 chevy analogy might apply to a BAIII, or SHSH. If you weren't here (and I wasn't) then the secondary market gives you a chance to get something after it is gone. Some current models of Busse's (FBMLE) might be more analogist to a BMW. Available but not affordable. In my mind a person selling a collectable HOGFSHLE for a lot of money is entirely different than someone selling 10 GW's for a slight mark up the day after they were sold. However, they both sell very quickly, so there appears to be a market for both. Boy is it hard to kill this time. Ron Athay

Free market capitalism is one of the worst systems ever invented as it puts all the power in the hands of a tiny minority who answer to no one. The idea that "the market will fix it's own problems" is either willfull ignorance or blatant dishonesty. There is no reason that rational people can't come up with a system that is much more fair. In canada we have public health care. I was reading an old thread where Andy had to hope his hand healed on it's own because he could not afford a doctor. Here it would all have been covered and because he is self employed and not wealthy his medicine would only have cost 2 bux. The doctors screamed bloody murder when the medicare bill was passed and the AMA and drug companies still spends millions of dollars a year trying to screw up our system. If it works for health care there is no reason it would not work for something important like the Dogfather.

the way i see it there are currently 5 ways to get a busse knife:
1.) the busse combat way: have it available for a few months in one big run and then discontinue it.
pros: very fair to all who are present cons: if the run isn't repeated soon thereafter or if a new model doesn't directly replace it, then the "old" model will skyrocket in price thus making it harder to obtain older models later on. fix: have more than one run and not 5 years apart.
2.) extravaganza style: special knives and special prices but very limited numbers and a crazy email shootout
pros: fair in that everyone has a shot (theoretically) cons: woe to 56kers, and of course this is SCALPER HEAVEN. these specials do NOT have limits so 1 person could buy all the knives and resell. fix: have limits on how much you can get per order or per blade or something.
3.) company store style: immediately available but usually small numbers. like a small extravaganza every time.
pros: theoretically fair in that we all have a shot to order but... cons: ...SCALPER HEAVEN again. no limits again. fix: have limits. multiple runs too.
4.) scrap yard style: have multiple models available in multiple runs?
pros: everybody gets a shot, now or later. cons: there may be a long wait between runs but not 5 years... fix: no fix for the perfect way to do things
5.) shows: blade or knob creek or whatever
pros: unique show only blades cons: not everybody can attend fix: no fix. if you can't make it, it's your misfortune.
so there you have it. my take on what the best way to do things are: scrapyard style!!!
the best way imo is to preorder the 1st run. that way you know how many to make. make a bunch extra and that surplus can be offered for immediate delivery for people that missed the preorder. once the entire run is finished, start the preorder process again. if not enough people preorder to make a second run, tell them to keep waiting until enough people preorder or to forget it and discontinue the item. as long as people are warned or they know how it works they cannot complain. thoughts?

The problem is that the system is pretty fair.
I'm going to get my knife because I'm going to do what it takes.
If you can't afford one, or you can only afford 1, that is your problem. unfortunately that problem is brought about by other people's GREED. If a guy can afford 27, why shouldn't he be able to buy them? because it was bought with the intention to resell for profit. again GREED. If he's faster than you, what gives you the right to complain? because he's taking advantage of a loop hole that should be policed by those making the rules. nothing has been done to prevent people from scalping. it's come to the point where LITERALLY 16 out of the first 25 posts (at the time of this writing) on the for sale forum on BF contains a busse product. abso-effing-lutely RIDICULOUS!!!

There are a lot of people who live in Canada and come to the U.S. for medical treatment.
You get what you pay for in medicine.
My mother had a lump in her breast and had to wait almost a month for a biopsy because she had HMO insurance. The daughter of co-worker was diagnosed with a brain tumor and got one of the best surgeons to remove it at Stanford in one or two days, he had PPO insurance.
My mothers procedure only cost a few $15 co-pays, my co-worker paid thousands.
In Canada I think you get a candy striper.
Fairness isn't a loophole.
I was complaining a lot when it took that long for my mother to get treated, especially because my parents could have said screw insurance and paid out of pocket to get it done immediately.
The people that care about knives enough are going to make sure they find the good deals or they are going to pay the price. If this was run like the Canadian health care system, you would be getting a knife made of 1050 carbon steel with no warranty.
Arf arf arf... That's my other dog impression.

And the Blade forum exchange?
You will notice that there are only a few people that are trying to make a buck turning over Busse's. It's mostly Game Wardens and looking at the prices, I'm glad I didn't try to profiteer, the margins are too slim.
The rest of the Busse's for sale are being sold by collectors to finance other things, like Badgers and Dog Fathers!
I'm glad to see a healthy market with healthy prices.
Arf arf arf... That's my other dog impression.

As far as doctors go, here is my 2 cents worth: Medicare drug plan sucks unless the drug pricing can be negotiated. If Congress doesn't fix it, you know BIG money is involved. I think I will become a Congressman, give myself raises, and rip me off a big piece of the American Dream. The US needs to fix the healthcare system in this country and make healthcare a non issue. I'm glad to see a healthy market with healthy prices. this is not a valid reason to scalp. so it's ok to buy 100 GW's and resell for $50 profit each to finance a bunch of other busse knives??? who does that help but the seller himself? so essentially he gets free knives by reselling and we all get ripped off because we couldn't buy direct from busse because he bought all of them to begin with. WTF? any way you shake it, the 8-Ball is always gonna come up with GREED!
