I still have four of them. All I need is the LE. The S6 is the best all-around fixed blade knife I know of. Makes me wonder why I bought a BATAC and M6. The Scrapper 6 is a real survival knife. And a bargain at the price. Vic, if you're looking to pawn off that BATAC, it's about the only Busse that I want. Great! PM me. I prefer the Ratmandu. PM received and replied to.

Geeze... Mike makes valid points about how some knives are designed to withstand that kind of abuse, which doesn't neccessarily make them "better knives." I have Scrappers and Rangers because I want a knife that will take gross abuse - for no legitimate reason really, other than chopping and prying (well I guess those are legitimate uses to me). I have a ton of Ontario Rats, which are more in line with Bark River's intended uses - edge holding and reasonably tough... and I love them. I do plan on gettting a Barkie some day too - probably more than one.
Its unfortunate that some people think that the only important quality of a knife is that it be indestructible.
It is also unfortunate that some people are grossly offended by the fact that someone wants to destroy knives with their own time and money just because they enjoy it, and because others enjoy watching the destruction.
None of us would be here at Scrapyard if we didn't care about how tough our knives were - because that is WHY you get a Scrapyard knife. If you want edge retention and fancy handles, you wouldn't be here - or you would know of an apporpriate maker that will fulfill your other knife needs so you could also get a beautiful high quality long lasting utility knife (say... Bark River!).
I'm a pretty laid back guy though, I'm not all about confrontation and complaining - I'm kinda "live and let live." For the reasonably educated knife user, who understands what knifetests.com is all about, there is nothing wrong with sitting back and enjoying watching someone destroy a knife.
As a side note, the spear test was something that is very interesting and fun to watch - the Cold Steel bushman is a dirt cheap knife designed to be easily converted to a spear... how much fun was it watching Noss launch that thing through TV's? I found it very entertaining.
I wish everyone would just relax a little bit, and take things for what they're worth.
I hope this didn't sound like a rant, because it really isn't meant to be - I'm just kind of thinking "alloud" through my fingers - I'm not wound up about this whole thing at all.
Have a good day Gents - I'll be on later tonight!
-Dan

BLD...yea Mike tends to hold back on what he thinks now doesn't he?? lol
Ahh when legends speak
anywho
Bors that isnt what i was referring to..you can make a legit knife test, with lots of relevant stuff, butt naked in the woods with JUST the knife if ya wanna go out and get down like that...IF you are doing what a knife is normally expected to do..Cutting stuff that needs cutting and maybe some light prying..
hmm...really wanna test a knife?? send it to me to use as a thrower..I will tell ya within a week or 2 if the knife is tuff or not!!!
2 BK7's have fallen before me
Feel me? Yep.....

yeah. i kinda used to be that way, like a knife had to be indestructible to be good. but i kind of thought a little about what mike said. and realize there more to it than that. i want a rat and a bark river now. and the people at RAT are some of the coolest people ever.

The Bravo 1 looks a near perfect 'Ray Mears' style bushcraft knife without the official 'Ray Mears' knife's £400 price tag.. (Ray is like a hippie Bear Grylls, but doesn't use hotel rooms! Ray teaches extreme environment survival skills to our forces in-between TV shows) I don't know who Ray Mears is, but for survival, I'd take the Bravo-1 over the Bear Grylls knife, which cost much, much more. But I'd take the S6 over either.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I don't like these tests. We all already know that these are tough knives, there are a few makers I trust and their word and my own experience with them is good enough for me. I don't need some dude in a Halloween mask telling me so.
That knife would have been better off in the hands of a soldier.
