right now I'm sort of shopping around in a very slow, roundabout way, for something in .357 sig, because it's a trendy round that's sort of unconventional, and I like the huge variety of rounds available for it. but I don't want to shell out for something like a sig if I'm not going to be all serious about shooting, just doing it recreationally. and I heard something about the XDs being a decent buy, but I stopped paying close attention to firearms a long time ago, so I'm catching up at turtle speed.

If you just shooting for recreation and not self defense shoot 9mm. It's a whole lot cheaper.

The manliest firearm wasn't listed. It is the Browning M2 HB machine gun. Oh, I know, its a bit heavy to carry around. It works best mounted on a main battle tank, the manliest vehicle. Gosh, my memories are flooding back! I just loved to say, "Caliber Fifty"....Kachunk...boom, boom, boom!

I considered the 1911 and the 870 but really it was the K98 no question.
Bolt actuions are the most manly of guns and the K98 has the finest bolt action ever. It was used in 2 world wars and is still being produced today. Uber accurate
capable of 600metre shots with ease it is the most accurate and long range weapon on the list and therefore the manliest.

The model 29 is far more manly than the 454 which is overcompensating.

The old school BAR is cool and even the new new takedown one is pretty neat. I always thought a .300 BAR would make a decent counter sniper rifle.

Din - couple ideas...

Glock and Sprinfield XD both have .357 sig. The XD's are great from what I hear, by the way! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> I was just being difficult as well!

You can get some models from Sig (and others I'm sure) that you can swap out barrels between .357 Sig and .40. .357 Sig is a 40 case necked down to .357 - so you can use the same Mags, it uses the same extractor setup and everything - and .40 is cheaper to shoot than .357 sig.

That said, I'm w/ Jer that if you're just gonna shoot, the 9mm is great. I got the 9mm instead of the .40 because I can shoot cheap surplus ammo - and lets face it, 9mm is a very good defensive round, even though it gets a bad rap! NYPD still carries it - and they kill people all the time!!

Unsub, I think you'll find the SMLE would give a Kar 98 a good run for it's money! I believe the SMLE action is still used on many hunting and sniper rifles to this day..

Well din this is my XD in .45 ACP, when I want to buy the XD in .40 at about the last minute I went for the .45 tactical (5 inch) over the service (4 inch) and oh so glad I did it is 13+1 and shoots like a dream. thousand or so rounds through it and no problems at all it is a big gun too, very manily in my opnion.
