Including shipping and handling, what's the most you'd spend on a fixed-blade knife?
single choice

I have "ideal" limits and a some what tight buget(as a collage student with a little family) now. But later when I am moving along in life and can spend more (and lust more) I see my self going a little higher but not too high.

I'm having trouble participating in this because I've already spent more than I'm comfortable with (on G10 mag-handled FFFBMs). I still sometimes think that I should have bought a Busse AK-47 (are swords and knives the same thing), but was that over my limit because I didn't?

For me, I have max that I'm comfortable spending; exceeding it results in a period of self-recrimination and mild depression over my perceived lack of self-control, but that doesn't mean I never do it. However, I'm not sure that there's an absolute maximum that I'd never exceed, especially if a blade is unique and/or has historical significance -- some bragging-rights fall into the "priceless" category.

Good Poll Bruce.

I just based my choices on what I have done. Generally my limits are lower, however we've all found ourselves doing or buying things that cost more than we said we'd spend. So I decided I'd just be totally honest with my answer...

I have gone as high as $675. Unless it is Jim Bowie's original Bowie, all future purchases will be limited to $300. Truth.

I put 400 for my folder limit, only because I am going to get a Sebenza some day, but normally I would only go as high as 100 for a folder.

I generally won't spend more than 150 for a folder, but like terry, I want a sebbie eventually.
fixed blades...well, everyone has a holy grail knife. I won't be getting mine anytime soon, but I can see spending 8-900, just like I would for any art that I enjoy.

600$ is the most I've spent on a fixed blade to date, that was my Randall bowie. Currently I don't have that much to invest however I would be willing to spend well over A $1000 (it's on my list) for a custom bowie. Folders I keep below $100 but for one that really grabbed me I would go to $200.

JYD#14 Do you need one, of course you do it's a knife and you like knives.....

I have a self imposed limit of $150 (not including shipping) for any knife and I have gone slightly over several times and one time by a whole lot (that knife was later sold).

This limit prevents me from pretty much anything Busse and I really want an AD. I may end up selling a few lesser knives to get an AD. With kids and my wife who stays at home with them, it's tough to justify much more since I have a firearms, hiking and Jeep hobby/addiction as well.

I voted $700, which is close to the maximum I have ever paid for a knife. But my new limit is $300, and even at that it would have to be something really special. Generally, I set my limit at $200. Years ago it was $100, but things cost more now.
