I took the wrap off - it felt OK. That knife now has permanently attached grips. I think that the ResC is worlds better for chopping. I do like the Micarta on my RD7 - its one of my favorite blades. The Dogfather is my favorite chopper by far - but the RD7 is my favorite midsized camp knife.
RD9 and RAT7 are always in my car. Yard Hook is always in my BOB.

Yeah, I figured that the handles would be easy enough to remove for throwing, and cord wrapping would be a good idea too. I think I know where I can get another fastener tomorrow. However, I'm having trouble finding a belt fine enough for polishing or a scotch brite wheel. I guess I'll just use one of the regular "stripper" wheels. How badly will that scratch up the steel?
If I can make it dark, I can make it light.

No idea when it comes to stripping - although I've done it on my RD7. Mine was very smooth under the coating. My brother's RD9 is very rough in the spots where his coating is worn - so you may be in for a surprise once you get under there.

Here is an older RD7, just returned by a friend who has been in a dangerous place. Notice the saber grind. My friend payed me a visit tonight. It still has a decent edge, actually. I will clean it up for him. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/RANGER/OldRD7002.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/RANGER/OldRD7001.jpg) These are some tough knives. My friend is getting a Scrapper 6 for Christmas, but he doesn't know it yet.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Mac - the Crowell/Barker competition knife (by Browning) was selling for around $120.00, depending on how hard you shopped. Sportsman's Guide cleared them out for members' price of $89.97 about five or six weeks ago.
