i love leatherman. the surge and core are the largest and have the most features. the wave has just as many features but is slightly smaller. it is my favorite. i bought a pocket clip for mine and it rides in my pocket. the charge is the same as the wave but it has a better blade made from 154cm. it is a great tool as well. I have used every leatherman tool ever made and i would say the wave is the best. if it isn't a leatherman the swiss tool is great also. i own alot of gerber tools but i'm not happy with the performance. I have had problems with the wire cutters and i like a fully serrated blade.

well tnt pretty much covered it!
all i can say is be careful of the ones where the blades don't lock. The most used tools on my Leatherman are: flathead screwdriver, philips drivers, pliers, and can opener (for coffee cans).
I have one in every car, and in my desk at work.
For cutting.. i prefer my trusty Spyderco always clipped in my pants.. just faster to deploy/put back.

If I was to buy a new multi-tool, I would get a Leatherman Ti. And for when I was flying, I would get a knifeless Leatherman Fuse.

Fwiw.. in a Popular Mechanics article they had a Leatherman Ti vs a Swiss Army (something i forget), and the Leatherman Ti came out ahead.

Even though the SAK was lighter, but the blades didn't lock, and the Ti's tools got the nod for being just overall more useful. oh and they said the Ti just plain looked Cooler!

I agree. I have never gone diving but I bought a magnum (boker) titanium dive knife. it is made of alpha beta titanium. I'm sure mission's titanium is nicer but i have used the magnum and it is tough.
back to multitools, the charge ti is good looking but I would rather use the cheaper not so awesome tool. I don't want to damage the charge.??

The best dive knife isn't a dive knife at all. It's a pair of EMT scissors. They'll cut through just about anything. And are much cheaper than a dive knife.

On the subject of Multitools I have a Gerber multitool with a little tool thingy that fist ontot he phillips screw driver and allows the use of screw driver bits. I really like it a lot. I'll do a search and see what I can find.
