15 mins after applying stripper, check out the crinkle coat!

2nd application of stripper.
I got the Klean-Strip Premium 15-min from Walmart for $7.34 (there was a cheaper 30-min one for ~$6). The stuff is like a jelly.

After stripping, the bare Infi is gray. The flat ground part is pretty smooth. The darker gray above and on ricasso is Not smooth.. that's where all the Infi dimples are.

I polished blade using Dremel & that wheel (#511). Just one step.. that's it.

Dremel #511 "Course Finishing Abrasive Buff". iirc the light brown one; 280 grit medium buff. Afaik the #511's have been replaced by a similar EZ Lock version. This wheel buffed out the gray Fast! yet didn't leave any scratches/gouges.

Top is normal SS4. Bottom is "Beakless", stripped & buffed.

Pics of blades..

Close-up of Infi dimples. You can *barely* make out the ScrapYard logo now..

I'm pretty impressed with the results, especially since it just took a 1-step polishing w/ Dremel & wheel (#511 Abrasive Buff).
Whole process took about an hour: 25 minutes for stripping. ~10 min cleaning off blade w/ soap & water. ~30 minutes polishing with Dremel. That's it!
Not sure if i'll remove Infi dimples. Not going for showroom, this is just my user.
This project was inspired by oddball's "Street Walker".. & countless other bare Infi blades on BF.

Enjoy!

Very nice! Next time i strip something down, I am going to try that stripping jelly. I have always done it the hard way, just sand paper, brillo, and elbow grease.
The final result is pretty good looking, to me. It is nice having a knife slightly different from everyone else's isn't it?
Several of my non-stainless knives that I have denuded had dimples similar to yours under the finish. I don't mind the look at all. actually, a titanium dagger I polished out has dimples, as well.

i tell you, the dremel tool has become my best friend. There isn't a feed ramp in the house that remains safe.

Good job.

Regretfully, I have been so busy I have not been able to complete the polishing process on my SS4.

I am finally going to have a few days off so if I don't sleep for 48 hours straight, I will try to polish it up.

Arf arf arf... That's my other dog impression.

That does look pretty good. My question is does that striping stuff have any effect on the handle and do you think it could have removed any of the coating under the handle?

I didn't see any effect on the Resiprene-C. I'm sure it does get some of the coating under the handle but probably not more than a few thou. In this case it doesn't matter because Infi isn't prone to rusting.

For SR-77 knives I will skip the stripper and buy LE.

Thanks guys.
Yes the Dremel *does* come in handy for so many things!

rvogster,
The Res-C wasn't affected by stripper at all.. in fact my polishing wheel prolly did more damage. If you look closely you'll see grey areas close to the handle where the wheel couldn't reach to polish it.

I thought about the coating under handle.. so after stripping, I dunked the whole knife in hot soapy water.. using a toothbrush to scrub that area.. to make sure any leftover stripper was gone.

Man.. bare Infi is pretty trippy.. I've read about Infi dimples.. but to see them up close & personal.. they're ..pretty neat. I think bld522 would have a field day finding patterns in them!

Nice project, thanks for the pics. I don't mind how the blade looked stripped and unpolished, reminds me of some of my high carbon stuff. The dimples look good too.
