Well put bld522 and Rich!
I was just thinking, that through-tempered Rockwell 59.2 blade bent an astounding ammount without shattering.. 'Conventional wisdom' says that harder than 55 to 56 makes knives brittle and prone to catastrophic failure! I guess some folks have never heard of the Busse boys!

I don't think CS will want to play.. Mind you if they DID that video of theirs would be almost compulsory viewing! Watching a TM get completely stuffed by a DF would be sweet!
I don't think many companies would bend their Rockwell 59 blades that far without there being shrapnel..

WOW this should be a sticky. I have been testing the SS4 cutting cardboard trying to dull it and have not even got close. We may have to develop harder tests for the scrapyard knives because the old measures take to long.
Through hardening is usualy tougher than differential. My cheness katana 9260 is through hardened because it makes for a tougher blade than ones with a hamon although they are more traditional and better looking.

Well, where are you going to go to find competition? There is absolutely no one that can match that performance at twice that price. Rc of 59 and you bent the knife that much...Man. Xan you warn us 3 days before it comes out so I am ready with some money. Jerry and Johnny Walker have all my money right now. That is pretty unbelievable! I have seen the Cold Steel "Proof" videos but they don't compare to those pics at all. I can't wait to get mine. You know thats a good point. Isn't it interesting that the first thing we do is compare our knives to the Busse line. We really should look outside to all those tatical wanta bees and start making our comparisons there. Thanks for bring that up Dan

The trade off is that through-hardening is supposed to make a knife more brittle than differential temper which will flex more.. Seems the DF doesn't know that though! Short of destroying trees or SUV's the SS4 holds it edge through pretty much anything..

As I recall the CS folks had the chance to take the original "Busse Challenge" some years ago and they declined. It seems that the "main line" knife companies like to deal with the Busse question by either ignoring it or pretending that Busse performance claims are overblown.
I would like to suggest just the opposite. It has been my experience that Dan's brother under states the performance of his knives. Dan's sister-in-law does the same. From the example I have of my two previous purchases from Scrap Yard, it looks to me like Dan and Patti are following the tradition.
I am seriously impressed by what we have seen here and I really believe that once the word gets out Dog Fathers will be more sought after than even the infamous Battle Mistress! This knife appears to be absolutely amazing!

That is very impressive Dan! Your brother has all my cash right now, I hope you are planning on having these available for a while. I am sure the first batch will sell out fast. I can see a big brother to my Scrapper 6 in the future. The scrapper is a great knife by the way. I got a week out of it before it started to rust, this is why I will never stray too far from INFI (I am not one for meticulous equipment upkeep if I don't have to). I hit it with some naval jelly and then cold blued it. It will make a fine user around the garage and yard.
You showing up for Blade this year? You could just throw the gauntlet down then and there. I am sure CS will have a TM sitting around their booth. Maybe we can take one out in the lot and chop it up with a DF.
