My town introduced those cans awhile back. They gave each household 2 of those for free tho... Apparently, many communities that have given them to residents found that they take them when they move away, so Jeffersonville requires that you buy them from the start. I could buy them at Lowes or Home Depot, but those are at least as expensive and the city delivers at no additional cost.

Mag, what do you do about heat treatments? Do you have to send them out? I've always heard that the heat treat is at least as important as the steel.

i heat treat at home. with a complex steel, i'd probably mail it out. I use simpler steels, which are not lesser steels unless you're mass producing knives.
I just light the hottest fire i can, let em get orange hot and non-magnetic, leave em that way for 20-30 minutes, then quench. temper at 400 for another 30 or so minutes.

Might as well post for 800: Here's to the Army and Navy and the battles they have won; here's to America's colors, the colors that never run.

any of you guys like the Bark Rivers with wood handles for users? I might get one for my dad for christmas and I like the look of the wood a lot better but it looks slippery.

I've got a curly maple Forrester; the handle is smooth, but I wouldn't call it slippery. Vic has a lot more Bark River than I do (although I've been scoping one on the bay -- someone came along and outbid me yesterday, one of us will be spending more than the current bid though).

deathchat dead for over 12 hours then another 7? It's like I observed a couple days ago, the Yard seems a lot less active. People agreed with my economic explanation, but I also think the business model change has affected activity. I believe a lot of people kept in touch because they were here to check on when the next release would be. When knives are posted for pre-orders for at least 4 weeks, you simply don't have to keep coming back to be in the loop -- once a month is plenty. I may be wrong, but Busse Combat has an active sub-forum on BladeForums, where 'ganzas are periodically announced, somtimes with very little advance notice, but their main site forum is like a Verizon "dead zone" commercial.

mornin' Jim. They look so nice but I wouldn't want to detract from the performance for aesthetic gain. right now I'm looking at the Wet Enviro, Bravo-1, Aurora, or Nebula

Another thing, and before I say this I'll once again acknowledge that Dan's paying for the server, so it's his forum and he calls the shots, but some of the rules (specifically that discussions must not be about other knives unless there's a Scrap Yard comparison) tend to shut down conversations. This particular thread seems to be "Mob Rules" where I haven't seen anyone slapped down for things like asking about Bark River handles, but the boom occasionally drops on the rest of the knife forum.

well there's a reason I have 25+ Busse Kin blades and have to ask such a simple question about Bark River. But to clarify further, this blade will be part of a package including a spyderco and possibly a crash rat or NMSFNO.
