Nobody has said anything annoyed to me about my H1 though I make no secret about having it. The other week I was in Barnes & Nobles for a writing thing. I took out my leatherman tool to play with a staple, bending it into weird shapes with the pliers. The girl next to me introduced herself with "You're one of those people who always has a pair of pliers, aren't you", and then we compared knives (she had one of the larger Spyderco's). In the middle of the food court area of a B&N store. Pretty awesome.

But yeah. I'm totally in agreement as far as tools versus people and which you should be more wary of. A malicious will can always find a way to injure somebody: humans are fabulously adaptable tool users.

Plus, common sense should be applied here. A person who plans a violent act does not go around with their weapon (specialized or improvised) on display because that draws too much attention. The person that attacks you will attempt to do so with the element of surprise. In effect, a concealed weapon is the private mindset of "I am prepared to attack", while an openly carried weapon is the public declaration "I am prepared to defend". Or so it would seem to me.

Who knows. Humans confuse me. Especially at 01:28. Zzzz....

a concealed weapon just means it is your business, not everybody elses. almost all civilians that carry a defensive weapon will conceal it.

I don't edc any fixed blades

Too high profile? Company policies?

folders are so much lighter and easier to carry. I'll carry a fixed blade if I'm going hiking but I really just don't need one at work. If I did, I'd just leave one there instead of carrying it around all the time.

I can't really say that I preferred carrying the Swamp Warden, I still used the Leek anytime I needed a knife, but I was offended when I was told not to carry it anymore.

Which to me is messed up. There are perhaps some tactical advantages to having a defensive weapon concealed, since your attacker doesn't know what you're going to pull out or where you're going to pull it out of until they are already committed. But I get the feeling that the much bigger reason there is an encouragement to carry concealed rather than open weapons is to reduce discomfort on the part of those who prefer to go unarmed. Which is absurd. Other people's opinions of your beliefs ought to be completely irrelevant to how you carry out those beliefs, provided you do not trample their basic rights.

As I said. Humans confuse me.

I'm not sure if this counts as "auction spotting" or if the Death Chat is exempt from that sort of thing, but I saw an unused RMD with kydex + small Tek-Lok on the BF Exchange for $190 last night. I didn't expect it to still be there today, but it is. It's not a fire sale, but considering that they were released at $138 (plus S&H if purchased online) + the price of the sheath, I think that's a pretty good deal, I was tempted myself, but I already have 5 RMDs and am awaiting VetDayGanzaaa prices before I decide on buying anything else.

That might work in a rural area, but openly carrying at the workplace will get you fired in many (perhaps even most) offices. In a lot of the US, while unlicensed concealed carry may be illegal, so is open carry, but it makes you a lot easier to spot and won't necessarily keep you from getting attacked -- they'll just come at you from behind. I recall a saying that I heard while growing up, "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6."

I couldn't really care less about anybody's opinion. I just don't like other people in my business and the less they know, the less they can pry into my business.
