picking a 1911 is like picking a car. It is very personal. what works for me might not work for you.

with that said, I'll give you my take...

The Colt combat commander XSE was my first 1911. It was expensive... $850+ some years ago. probably way over that right now. It is a very fine piece of machine. Everything works the way it is suppose to. the slide and frame is mated with very little rattle. it can probably out shoot me at 25 yards. very accurate to say the least. packs a decent punch but then again its a .45

There is something about a 1911...I think every American should have at least one...

Agreed. My first handgun was a 1911. I purchased a Kimber custom classic in stainless. I narrowed my choices to a Glock 17 or a 1911. I'm glad I got the 1911. The design is truly a piece of American history.

I was specifically looking at high reliability + acceptable accuracy balanced against cost. Just a basic, preferably as close to GI as possible, M1911. You're moving out of that market toward competition guns with Wilson.

Mornin' Jim
Good afternoon now -- I fixed the significant bug that was waiting for me, and have requested a judgment call on whether the other change should be done. It's not a bug, but a change request by one person that will affect multiple people. My recommendation is not to make that change unless other stakeholders want it too.

Now I've got a new project with a two-week turn around to get working on, so see you later.

That's why I'm glad I purchased my Kimber when I did. It didn't have all the firing pin safeties that are being produced with the pistol now. My pistol shot great with no flaws but I sent it out to Dane Burns for a basic reliability job. Had a few problems with him but overall good work. My 1911 is my baby

It would be interesting to hear from anybody here with first hand experience, or with friends in the sandbox, whether they miss their 1911's in the services. I've heard comments from both sides. The Pro-M1911 camp praises the power and authority of that meaty .45 bullet, while the Pro-M9 camp liking the lighter recoil and higher effective rate of fire of 9mm.

I've also heard some noise about penetration of body armor, but I can't really see either .45ACP or 9x19mm being an effective weapon against any sort of body armor.

I would never imagine the .45 being an offensive round. You use it to get to your rifle(s)

both .45 and 9 are "perfect" defensive wise if you do your part

I've heard it said that you should use the largest round you can shoot acurately, which ties into KENKEN's post, and I agree with that advise. My beat partner had to shoot someone who was trying to stab him (we are issued the S&W 5906 in 9mm) and fired three (3) shots. One shot hit the head near the right ear, not sure where the second shot went, but the last shot was the one that brought the suspect down. It hit in the hip bone which caused the suspect to fall to the ground. When I got on scene (seconds from when the shots were fired) the suspect appeared to be dead. When EMS personnel arrived on scene a couple of mins later, they turned the guy over. He still had the knife in hand (he was laying face down on it) and began to swing it around as if still in the fight mode, not at any specific person. Its all about shot placement and that's final.

anyone seen andy wayne on lately? i need some secret voodoo method of dealing with a possible bedbug infestation. i have the big red 'three in a row' itchy legions that don't disappear in a day like mosquito bites. i just killed one, unlikely it's the only. oh how nice that would be.

gotta clean, vacuum, and change the sheets. i hear neem oil is effective but unpleasant.
