I think you really have to consider how long your "SHTF" situation is going to last when it comes to what you stock and how much. At the friendly end of the spectrum, you have a natural disaster like an earthquake or hurricane. Which inspires a lot of smash-and-grab chaos initially but then the federal government will step in and take care of you whether you want them to or not. In this case you will need relatively little ammunition because martial law will arrive soon and you will not be allowed to bear arms anyway. Unless you plan to hide out in the ruins, which is a whole other topic entirely. At the other end of the spectrum you have global annihilation, nuclear World War 3, Z-Day, Judgment, whatever you want to call it. A good supply of ammunition here will put you in a position to be a long term survivor, but is itself not the only thing you need. When the "SHTF" and the fan blows up for good measure, you need to be investing in ammunition production as well as merely stockpiling modern ammo. Learning how to make black powder, how a flint lock works, or how to make a compressed air rifle, etc. These "low tech" weapons would be a more realistic answer to a global crisis lasting an indefinite number of years.

Are you any good with it?
If you are, 'grats. I've got a bow that was made for me by a friend (40 pounds, simple selfbow, ashwood, flat cross section) but I'm a miserable shot with it. A compound I hear is worlds easier to shoot, but now you're definitely not talking about a low tech solution.

I want to try out an M&P 9 and also an HK 45. I've heard really good things about both. The HK 45 will definitly cost some dollars though.

I saw a Hoyt Gamemaster recurve today on sale for $250. It was bare but I was really tempted to grab it.
People that limp wrist glocks usually aren't holding them properly and I think it has to do with the grip angle. You want to be all the way up into the tail, right under the bore axis. That minimizes muzzle-flip keeping the energy productively forward and backward.

I did some reading back in the early 1980's on what would be likely to happen in a Nuclear Thirld World War...Gen Sir John Hackett wrote a book on the topic which was widely acclaimed...I think it was called the "Third World War"....he was recently retired from our joint services chief of staff so knew what he was talking about....and the best thing you can do is emmigrate to certain parts of the world....mainly in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia and New Zealand for those who are English speaking....South America if you speak Spanish....maybe South Africa or the Southern African States....but prevailing wind patterns plus the level of anticipated strike and counter strike during the cold war had virtually most of the Northern Hemisphere a dead zone.
If anyone is interested in the details I am happy to go further....the bottom line though was that your CONUS States were an unsustainable area to live. Radiation would eat you with secondary cancers etc ....it was just a matter of time.
Alaska was doable but ozone damage and/or ice age conditions returning because of the amount of dust sucked up into the sky made that location along with Northern Siberia and China pretty much a second dead zone for different reasons. Again down to wind patterns as far as I remember.
So unless you have a passion to be a Crocodile Dundee figure in Alice Springs or other parts of central to southern Australia....I would'nt get too optomistic about it all. Here in the UK we were finished immediately or within 3 days for radiation. Not pleasant...but knowing where you stand is better than not knowing...at least you can make more informed choices on how to spend your money.
Once again I like Momaw's idea's....a lead mould for pellets and a high compression spring air rifle with replacement washers, springs and valves will be a good long term working option. Black powder is less attractive as mixing basic salpetre is dangerous but the idea of a good flintlock rifle would mean scrounging up old ammo stocks and making the best of resources could be done. You just need to be in the right place to make it work....

I almost puked a little after reading this on the homepage of a member here "karl marx predicted and summarized history this way. it is pure genius." What was the context in which that was used? Was it something like a stuper of awe because a man as crazy as Marx could have predicted what is occurring?

The reason I ask about the context is because I was listening to a Glenn Beck show a couple of weeks ago when the Secretary of State in the 60's (if I'm not mistaken), Benson, spoke to the Russian President at the time. The Russian President said that communisim would be spoon fed to America a little at a time to the point where they will eventually embrace it.
I guess what I'm wanting to know is if this member is anti or pro Marx based on everything you read on the website.

http://www.aeonity.com/gravitateadded: for the sake of clarity I'll say again that I find the contents of this webpage to be vile, repugnant, and bordering on treasonous.

As for the Marxism comments: It looks as though it's a bunch of head nodding in response to a bunch of copy and paste (plagiarism) from other internet sites (mucho research, I'm sure). Why think for yourself when somebody else can do it for you?

Went over to WalMart yesterday for some ammo, and saw a Mossberg Model 88 for $177. What do ya think, should I get it?
