So,
my brother plays bass
he told me tube type amps are way better than
solid state
is that true?

For guitar players it's very true...

For bass players I recommend a Hybrid bass amp.. Tube Pre-amp with solid state power amp.. They sound a lot tighter for Bass compared to an all tube bass amp, which kinda sounds flabby in my opinion..

yes and no.

they're more expensive, require maintenance, and the tone is inconsistent.

however you do get a warmth and response from tubes that you don't get from transistors.

if i was only playing rhythm, i'd be fine playing a solid state amp.

When I was doing tech for a lot of concerts when I was an undergrad, I hated tube amps - always had to be so dang careful with them all the time.

When I'm working a 26-hour call, getting flat-rate gig pay, I'm way too tired to baby your dinosaur of an amplifier <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
