I just bought A blade blank from custom knife maker Gene Martin. the blade is made of modified 8670. Gene told me it is a supper L6.
does anybody know anything about 8670 steel?

This is a good question for Warren. Does any one know if he has found his way to the yard yet?

Expect slightly more wear-resistance than S7; slightly less impact resistance than S7; and expect less corrosion resistance. Expect to be highly pleased if ground and heat-treated for what you're doing.

but remember SR77 has more wear resistance than S7., so they will probably be close in that category. SR77 will have more impact toughness.

L6 starts rusting if you look at it the wrong way. Other than that, it's a very tough steel.

They were used a lot by John Greco for his basic knives.
