Please forgive this question if it is silly....maybe I'm missing something here.
I just ordered a DF and it will be my first Scrap Yard purchase.
I have seen pics of some such as the SS4 that has a logo, and other models that are of course sterile. Is it a cost thing not to logo, or is it just cool to be sterile (no pun intended), or what's the deal?
Can anyone shead some light on this little dog's question?
Thanks guys !
Tdog

I can't comment on the cost with evidence, tdog, but the crinkle-coated knives won't have the logo, except for some special editions like the SS4 (which has a sweet logo, btw). The satin-finished LE will have the logo.
I *think* the cost aspect, though, is a factor, since scrapyard is about the best performance at the lowest price.

So far only the Street Scrapper 4 in INFI, and the scrapper 6 limited edition have the logo's.
I think the decision is one of cost. There's a certain amount that has to be charged in the prices to cover the basic cost of maintenence and repair of the logo engraver machine. How much that is I could not say.

Not to be a wise gal, but didn't you see on the knife order page that states clearly that the black crinkle coated knives will NOT have the logo?

Yes, I clearly saw that.
My question was geared more to the "why" they don't do logos on everything..... rather than what had logo's and what didn't.
If anyone knows for a fact the reason........ please enlighten us all !!!!
Some very good points and theorys so far, thanks for the responses.

I don't know why they do or don't put logos on, but I would prefer the logo be on all of them. I like the logo, the logo is cool. I am proud to show off my Dogs and I want people to know that they are Dogs.
Alas, 'tis not so.

Rich, with you on that, the logo should be a cost option on CG, $10 for the killer mutt works for me!

I was just posing the question because I never really knew the reason they are mostly sterile. Has anyone ever asked Dan ? I am just curious about this topic for some reason. But, I will say that I agree with you fellas and that I would like the entire line to have the logo. The logo definitely looks great and lends brand identity to the product. For the prices they are charging, they could factor in another $10 in the price for the logo and I would feel like I was still getting a steal !! Dan is the man. ( I'm sure that has been used on here once or twice)
Just my opinion ........ as a puppy that is. ;-)

T-Dog - Some time ago we had this discussion, and either Dan or Patti explained that the black-coated blades were kept sterile for those in the military who might carry them. The military supposedly dictates that equipment must not have markings on it to identify it as American. Hence, the only blades with the logo will be either special runs or Limited Editions. We did not have that concern when I was a grunt in VietNam, but I guess times and policies change. I totally agree with you that the logo is awesome, and wish that it was on ALL of the Yard's blades, as do most of us!!! Also, the DogFather is so big that I seriously doubt many troops in the military would carry one - it's just too big! It is also one AWESOME chopper! I hope this answers your question. Tom

Actually some of the SOG blades from Veitnam were sterile for that very reason. Unless you were parachuting into Cambodia with your sterile SOG in your teeth you probably would not see one though. Mostly the sterile knives are so no one can prove that US forces were somewhere they were not supposed to be. I like that the knives are sterile it gives them a more serious look and makes them cheaper. It also makes it more special when they do put a logo on stuff like the SS4.
