it's about a $10 difference to my door between the hanwei practical and the cheness ko-katana.

cheness: 9260 steel, fuller, beefy guard

hanwei: differential temper, real hamon, way cool geometric tanto point.

i'm gonna have to make a katana myself as well. gonna order some more 1075 steel, maybe 1.25"-1.5" broad.

Almost real hamon and the Hanwei ninjato is straight where the Cheness is curved.

Just something else to consider.

Yes, not an easy choice.

I didn't think my katana was really sharp because the edge wasn't feeling razor-like. I read it had like an apple seed edge so I took it outside and grabbed an orange from a tree, threw it in the air and just barely bumped the orange with a not so strong swing. I thought nothing happened to the orange until I picked it up and saw what was the cleanest cut I had ever seen. It sliced it better than if I had used a cutting board. That's when I got scared and said "No more playtime with katana." It showed me what these things were originally created for.
