Is there some event that drew you into the knapping/obsidian process, Evo? Or, is it a general interest of yours?

I'm looking through some wedding photography by one of the big names in the industry. Nice pictures, but... why the sepia toning? Overuse of sepia toning makes me cringe.

It's been something I've wanted to do, all my life.

I think that with your artistic talent, and discernment for beauty in nature, you will produce some high-grade implements.

May I ask some photography questions, Evo? I ask because I know that I can get a little edgy if people ask me for advice with computers and software, so I want to be sensitive if you prefer to avoid queries from a novice.

That's kind of you to say, but I am very klutzy and awkward. My physical skills are generall rather poor. I am, thus, generally not well suited to this kind of craftwork.

MCJ, you are still here! Cool...it's been a long day on the death channel.

Go ahead – but if the question are too weighty, then I might save answering them until a time when I'm feeling better.

Evo, I suspect a lot of the sepia stuff is at the request of the couple being married, and is meant to imply a certain romantic timelessness to the photo. Nevermind that actual sepia prints are nothing like the digitally filtered modern attempt at sepia prints.

Not weighty at all <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I was just wondering, do you find yourself having to continuously upgrade your equipment to stay at the edge of the profession? I know that, as an example, I am rebuilding the components of my computers at home every 12-18 months.

And then, back to my novice photography, and I apologize if you are asked this all the time, but are the point-and-shoots the place to start, or is it better to invest a little more to get into digital SLR?

I think that's part of it. I think another part is that when you seriously screw up, you can cover up your mistakes with a black and white conversion, some heavy handed sepia toning, vignette and blur... and then call it "art".
