Heck yeah, so today I was thinking about chopping a pineapple.

Does thinking about it count? I guess so, if you are like Charles Xavier from X-Men or something.

Dang. I've never seen a rattler in the wild. Mostly Copperheads and Cottonmouths (Water Moccasins) here.

Oooooooh! I love snakes! The only rattler I've seen while walking was a dead one, maybe 2 footer. I would have loved to have seen a 7 footer!

Lots of dogs get tagged by them. They seem to like the habitat near our subdivision - probably because the ponds bring in their food supply.

So, how many of you have stumbled into a rattlesnake in your outdoor experience? I have come across 2 out here on the trails near our home. One was probably about 7' long, and could have easily tagged me if it wanted to. As I ran by on the trail, I heard it coil up in the brush next to the trail. I sprung forward and turned around to see it. Thing was gaping and rattling at me with a pretty bad demeanor. My heart must have hit 200+ beats per minute that day.

Biggest thing I ran into around here lately was a 2 foot bowfin. That's got to count for something.

I actually like them, too, but not with that kind of encounter. That thing coiled up in probably about a second. It must have been trying to sun next to the trail.

My other dog (brittany spaniel) has been tagged twice by copperheads. Both times it was on the soft part of the nose - not pretty.

Some of our guys at work have encountered some fiesty ones, they usually kill them
A friend of mine is terrified of snakes, he was working on a well and he had the day shift, it starts at 5 am so it's still pretty dark out. The drillers had killed a 5 footer that night and coiled it by the steps to the trailer. They said he did like 3 backflips trying to get back to his truck, hahahahaha! Ahh, good times...

I strongly dislike hiking in the summer for two reasons - one is the Georgia heat, and two is the Georgia critters. I never have to worry about rattlesnakes or hornets or lyme-disease-carrying ticks when I hike in December.

My friend's sister had her cattle dog get bitten by a baby rattler (more toxic). The dog went through 8 full transfusions (no antivenin), but survived. I guess the vet bill was astronomical. they had no idea the dog was bitten until it basically flopped over.
