So, what do you guys think? Does this show clearly the way pictures are composed, and the issue with "Look for leading lines/Try to place the subject on a rule of thirds intersection/etc"
I am still trying to come up with an inoffensive way to tell them that designing by position is soul-less and hollow, with nothing to communicate.

This does make it easier Evo. I mean, I got it the first time but for those having difficulty there is no excuse now. It seems pretty clear.

The last thought on your mind were imaginary lines.

a few years back there was an interesting article from an electronic music maker named Richard D James (aka APhex Twin) who is very prolific and very well known for outstanding work. in this article he had stated that he was tired of making music and wanted to write a computer program to make his music for him......

It sounds like I should go ahead with trying this approach on them.
Thanks.

Thanks for those pictures and explanation, Evo. There are dozens of additional elements and intricacies brought into each of those pictures, too. Like I mentioned before, you have a savant's ability to capture beyond the 2 dimensional constraint of your medium. That is a magnificent talent.

I shared this with one photographer friend of mine, who was open to my ideas, but didn't get it. After I shared this with him, he understood what I was talking about.
However, he had further comments, and I'm not sure how I should factor them in.
Just a moment; I'll cut and paste them in.

I do fear there will be some who will make your pictures "work" within the rules. I think the emphasis on the subtle indicators is the key to opening their eyes.

designing by position is soul-less and hollow, with nothing to communicate. That's it. You've given a succinct conclusion to the narrative. I don't know how to make it inoffensive, however.
