Hi,

i have a ss4 which is my favourite 4" blade knife and i want to get another but i have also seen the meaner streets knife, which i like alot.
Does anyone have both of these knives and if so how do you think they compare to each other.

I want a knife that will be great at general camp and survival duties i.e. batoning, carving and peeling etc.
I've seen the dumpster mutt and camp tramp but i already have a fallkinive f1 which is similar (atleast in blade shape), so i'm looking for some thing a bit differentand closer in looks to the ss4. Plus i think the meaner street is INFI and i prefer a knife that won't rust easily.

What does everyone think?

Look at Horndog's 'My 4" knives' thread.. I think there is a meaner in the pic near his SS4. (It may be an Active Duty though.. Sorry not sure!)

Hi, paul

yep, that's the meaner.
They both look similar but it would be interesting to know how they compare for camp duties.

Is the micarta handle slippery because it doesn't look like there is any thing to protect your fingers if your hand slips.
Also which is the better for light battoning or are they about the same.

Hopefully horndog might respond to this post.

This was probably a bad time to ask thought because everyone getting excited and obsessed about the DFLE.

Sorry, I been off line since Monday. The Meaner is much like the SS4. The micarta grip is secure whem wet. It is a little smaller since it lacks a finger choil. I can tell no difference in performance, but the Meaner handle would probabaly take more abuse than the SS4 handle.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Thanks for the reply horndog.
Do you know if the tang of the ss4 goes close to the end of the handle like the tang in the dog father picture on the technical specs page.

Also if you don't mind me asking which is your favourite bush craft type knife for camp duties.

I don't knowbout the tang on the SS4, but my favorite bushcraft knives are the YK, HR, and HRLM.

Good to see your back on-line, Vic. How's your computer/internet situation going?

Welcome to the Yard, cfreak.

I have an SS4 and Meaner, I totally agree with what Vic says.

I like them both. The Meaner seams a little more compact, but it's feels heavier though.

They are both mine. I was taking pics of the DM LE, so I tossed them in as well, since no one else posted photos.
