I just got a Yardhook and was wondering if it would be possible to remove the original handle and put a custom on.
Removing the handle canīt be too difficult but when it comes to a new one I have no idea what I could use.
Could drill pinholes in the tang and put micarta or G10 scales on
But the handle would be really small
Have thought about using some wood but how to get such a radiused curve in it for the tang???
thx

Welcome to the Yard!
Its been brought up before - I'll never do it, but guys here have talked about doing a stacked leather washer handle - like on the Ka-Bars/USMC's.
I like the ResC, though!

Welcome to the Yard.
I don't recall having seen one rehandled, but anything is possible. A nice piece of stag would look cool (at least to me) on the right Scrapyard, like a DMLE.

Welcome to the Yard, Fred. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Some day I'd like to rehandle one just for the heck of it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
One of the easiest ways to me, would be to file some notches in the tang and use pins/rivets to attach handle slabs. I've done that quite a few times in the past and it's always worked out great with other blades.

I agree with Macgregor ,the Rats are so much easier to rehandle + they have diff tempered blades that look really good with a nice polish.

I wanted to modiy my Yardhook But like you said the Mojo would be easier to rehandle. So I decided that I will customize the blade a little bit. I stripped it,removed the hook, did some "filework" to get a nice thumb ramp... Maybe iīll put a satin finish on but I kind of like this used dull look: ![[Linked Image from i265.photobucket.com]](http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii211/zingzong2005/CIMG2337Small.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i265.photobucket.com]](http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii211/zingzong2005/CIMG2330Small.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i265.photobucket.com]](http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii211/zingzong2005/CIMG2329Small.jpg) Scrapyard knives ROCK!!! Even a blunt one chops pretty good: http://www.myvideo.de/watch/3089145

Looks good, Fred. Now it's a Yard Guard. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

That looks awesome. I love the hook but those file marks look fantastic. I may grind a couple into the hook.
