You could make two Dog Fathers out that thing!
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

That is wicked!!! as for taking it hiking, no probs it just hangs from your belt and you wouldn't know your carrying it !!! Of course you wouldn't, your pants would be around your ankles!

D Yeah.... I might have an idea. Have you narrowed down a plan that you might start to grind on? I can't wait to see what your end result might look like. .

The DogFather is pretty impressive but I'd guess even that beast would look kinda slim next to this.... Man that DOES look like a "beast"!!! That appears significantly larger, longer and heavier than my concept. I was thinking more along the lines of 15" - 17" blade. That blade appears VERY thick, heavy and longer than I would prefer... (???). I am guessing the blade is around 20" - 22" (????). Also, I don't care for the guard. I don't need one and it would just be in my way and extra wasted weight. Aside from the guard, that still looks like a VERY cool massive chopper. What are the "actual" dimensions? It looks like the blade is massively thick at the guard and tapers towards the tip. I prefer a single handle and although old, the shape looks decent. But, for a blade that "appears" as heavy as that, how do you feel about the handle? How about a side by side pic next to a Dogfather? . I can't say I'm overly fond of the design it's just that it's really old and was passed down to me so I have kept it. Regarding a comparison pic with a DogFather, if someone gives me a DogFather I will post as many pics as you want !!!!! Pitman, Man what ever you do I HOPE YOU ain't going to USE that !!!!!! That is a Imperial German 1855 Pioneer Short Sword . You see, this is what I collect, and I have been ask by others to assist in the writting of a book regarding Czech, and Slovakian bayos, swords and fighting knifves. The German stuff pretty much has been tackled, but nothing regarding the Czech stuff, at least in English. I have 193 Swords, Bayos, Daggers, Fighting knives, and Jack knives in my personal collection at present. This is not including any modern knives at all, just MILITARY cutting edges. Did you get a sheath with it??? As it sits it can fetch at least $250.00-$300.00 even without the sheath. Also, there should be a series of #'s and letters on the left side of the crossguard, I can most likely tell you what the unit was that it was issued to. There will be a series of #'s, and letterson the spine just infront of the Crossguard also, In fact let me know what on it, and I'll tell you some of the history of it. BUT DON'T USE A PIECE OF HISTORY----PLEASE!!!!!!! Send me a phone # via PM, and I'll call you if you choose.

But, I would rather see what it can do. It is all rusted now anyway. So, what's a few scratches and dings? If it breaks, it wasn't a worthy piece of history anyway.

Wow. That's pretty cool. You really shouldn't use it. Either keep the tradition of passing it down from generation to generation or donate it.
I use to have an old WWII Commemorative Chinese broadsword but decided to donate it to one of the museums in China. It was my grandfather's who was a 3 star general in the PLA.
It was rather large, as swords are.
As far as choppers. The axes and hatchets are the king of wood chopping. Even an extremely dull hatchet can easily out chop most large knives on a tree with a diameter of 5" or more.
I think we really need to bring back the Busse Family hatchet series. Maybe even create a large axe.
