Since we had a few nights below freezing lately, I thought it would be a nice time to hike some trials in the coastal forests over on Jekyll Island. It hit near 60F today. What a jungle!

I had to cross this little swamp on a wooden foot bridge.

Look at the size of that palmetto root!

I carried my YKLE in my new rainwalker leather.

I think even a 300 pound fat old man can climb this tree to see whch way to go.

Looks pretty thick that way!

Now this trail looks well used and promising.

This dry dead Spanish moss makes excellent tender for fire starting.

Found a deer trail along side this tidal creek.

This moss covered log reminds me of Andy and Pitman. Good place for a shot of the Keeper!

It's getting thick in here, but the large deer herds have made a good trail, and I'm gonna follow it!

Its getting darker and denser. I was hoping to come out on the beach.

I see some light to my left (Northeast). Maybe it will come out on the beach. I haven't been in these woods in 25 years!

Definitely looking brighter.

Well it's about time! I've been walking for over an hour!

There is the forest I was in. I'm heading back along the beach now.

Just cross this creek and I'm near my Jeep.

I'm parked just beyond the big tree.

What started out as a one hour walk turned into three hours!

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

It is on Jekyll Island. It's a barrier island on the Georgia coast. There are big development plans for the island, so I wanted to hike those forests again before they are paved and high-rise hotels and amusement parks go in.

It's such a shame, that people need to destroy these wilderness places. At the rate they develop the wild....there won't be anything left to see, for my childrens, children. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Excellent pics, Vic!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Looks like it was a great hike. Nice hiking stick. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I went for a hike today at a couple of stores.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> They were full of all sorts of unfriendly wild life... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" /> I was real glad to get back home. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
