I have to concure with the larger knives in Res-C and SR-77.

Since SR-77 is the king of tough and holds a pretty good edge, it is hard to ask for more in a big chopper.

I used to have a few larger Swamp Rats with micarta, but ultimately had to let them go because I just ultimately like the feel, weight and balance of the Res-C over the micarta handled larger knives.

I used to have Rat Mastiff and an original Ratweiler, but I just liked the Battle Rat and Camp Tramp considerably more. When it came inventory chopping time for cash, the micarta choppers got "Cut".

I still have my Battle Rat and Camp Tramp.

Although, I really have to say I REALLY like my new G-10 Chopweiler.

It reminds me a lot of a Heavy Heart that I once had and had to let go because it cost too much. I kind of hope the value of the Chopweiler doesn't go too high on the secondary market. I don't want the temptation. It is a very nice knife..... that said, I might still prefer the Camp Tramp (????).

As far as smaller knives, I actually do "usually" prefer micarta. But, I also do like some of the Res-C and mudders.
I wish Busse would finish their micarta nicer and without "Fuzzies". Bark River and most other makers polish up micarta very nicely. It is a very nice material when finished to a decent level. But, "Fuzzy" micarta already on a knife is hard to fix. I would have to drill out the pins, finish it, then re-attach it. So, Busse micarta has me annoyed. I begged Eric for the G-10 Chopweiler and was happy to get it. G10 doesn't really have fuzzies and finishes nice. I like my RMD with G10 as well.

I guess the thing about micarta and other handle materials is making sure the handle is well shaped. I like the new HRLM and RMD shape.
The Res-C and mudder handles are pretty well proven good for me. The smaller Res-C is a little small, but I have found a way to re-shape it to fit my hand well.

Toss up on materials for smaller knives. I like both at different times.

i like sr101 and would love to see it at the yard. look at how tuff the camp tramp is

Yeah..... Actually, as "SUPER-TOUGH" as SR-77 is, SR-101 has still shown itself to be nearly indistructable. I have been active over on the Swamp Chat forums for a few years prior to Scrap Yard's existance and never really saw a SR-101 failure. They hold a very nice edge and they still have a "Lifetime" warranty.

Hard to ask for much more than that!

I can't believe you guys are such a bunch of rust babies
They are coated using knives! Rust adds a bit of character and does not hurt the knife. S7 is a bit more rust resistant than SR101 but even it is a long way from stainless.
If you take care of your knife even SR101/52100 won't rust. Most rifles are made of carbon steel. Are you having problems with them rusting?

I thought something like a Swamp Warden with a Res C handle would be a no brainer. On a little knife like that you don't need all the toughness of infi
or S7 but being able to skin a whole deer or do a lot of whittling or whatever is really nice in a knife that size. RES C is my favourite handle for a using knife
so I would love to see it with one of my favourite steels without having to buy an old Howler. I also thought it would be a much better choice than S7 for the SS4.

I did not put INFI as an option because it is to expensive and it is overkill really. If you are not worried about rust S7 can do everything on a big knife as well as INFI and 52100/SR101 can do everything as well on a little knife.

What he said!!!!!

Scrappy that is a great idea. A friend on another site just got a Lightfoot custom that is a A2 Carbon fibre laminate.

Does anyone else like the idea of a S3 or SS4 with res C and sr101?

I wonder what "numbers and letters" means. Bruce had the rather inspired guess that it was steel from the Camillus factory closing. I was reading about the action and they had 100 years worth of stuff and never threw anything away.
Some of that equipment you can't even get any more. They can't make the patrol machete because there is no tooling big enough.

it'd be kind of expensive though.

Imagine a CPM10V blade edge with S7 on the outside. Check out the stats on this graph. The 10V and the S7 are almost polar opposite of each other.

It almost seems that 10V and S7 are meant to be laminated together.
