A howler seems like the perfect size for carry/ utility/ self-defence I think the Coot makes a better defense tool, so I carry the coot in the city and howler in the country. is it a more efficient stabber?? Think of all the resistance flesh has....you could put an ink pen into someone's abdomen. The coot has a finer blade, but I think they both would "put a hurtin" on the recipient if either one was used in self defense.

plus wouldn't the howler leave a wider channel?? like the idea behind the smatchet, or "pancake blade"...

Right -- i guess they would both be fairly effective flesh stabbers/slashers/etc.ers -- the pen thing makes me think of Joe Peschi in Casino... holy buckets tee hee

is it a more efficient stabber?? Yeah, it's the whole penetrator point thing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> The howler is a better slicer, and the coot is a better stabber. ![[Linked Image from i6.photobucket.com]](http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y209/andywayne/Knives/Swamp%20Rat/01-16-06-10.jpg)

And against flesh...even through clothing you could EASILY bury them both into any body part you choose.

Plus my coot came with one of the shorter "speed draw" factory holsters, and is much quicker to draw from my pocket (like half a sec) than the longer, tighter howler sheath.
