** Another Edit -- I renamed this post from:
** Opinion: What's a fair MOD 7 value?
*****

I just bought one (still in plastic, with sheath) on BF for $170. That seems fair to me considering that so few were released and that the release price (with S&H in US) was $134.90 -- the seller's profit is only $35 minus PayPal fees and S&H to me.

I really didn't think I'd like the MOD 7 when I bought mine, but I did. Since purchases were limited to one-per-person, it'll be nice to have a backup. Obviously, it was worth it to me or I wouldn't have bought it, but I wondered if others in the yard thought that I paid about the right price, or perhaps even got a good deal.

Edit: I assumed that everyone is familiar with the MOD 7, but some of the newer folks might not be. It was a small quantity military overrun release by Scrap Yard as part of the in the Razorganzaaaaa in mid-December 2007. Here's a post thread that starts with a picture of one: HAS ANYBODY SEEN THIS!?. It's basically a satin-finished partially serrated dumpster mutt that came with a kydex sheath.

The thread contains some venting about Dogs being excluded from the first minute of ordering; that rule was later changed, so (I assume) there should be no hard feelings, although we were sure working up some at the time. That's one of the good things at the Scrap Yard forums, people are allowed to vent, even rant, when they don't like the way things are going.

Hey bro if you like the knife then it's worth the money !!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

They are all guaranteed for life so it's not like you ain't gonna get plenty of service from it ! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

If you have the cash and you want the knife then it's a win win situation.
My problem is that I never have the cash !!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

If you think you got a fair trade then that's all that matters. I tried to get one. However, I'm on satellite internet which is a little finicky somethimes with connections. And that night was a finicky night. Needless to say I didn't score.

i would say that's a fair market price considering they are new and of very limited quantity. seeing as there were only 50 available, and one per person, i wouldnt expect to see too many out there for sale.

I believe it was just called the "MOD" and not the Mod7 unless that's your name for it! (I like Dumpster-Shark!)

I think the “7” was the number of the knife for the ‘ganza so specify which knife you wanted.

The Mil Overrun Dog was item #7 in the Razorganzaaaaa, so it was referred to as a "Mod 7" in my order confirmation email from Patti and in follow-up threads about who got their orders in; that's why I called it a MOD 7, although you're correct that "7" wasn't originally part of the name.

Yes I believe Andy is right, it was the #7 Mod (dog Military over run) or something very close to that.

You scored a great deal IMO! Bully to you!

I love mine! Just think......You are now one of 50 & so am I!

Because the original was popular a mil overrun and very limited ,I think buying one so soon after release was a great investment. I do think it is called the Mod7 though.

I was able to score another one at an even better deal than my last.

I think MODs are going to be my new INFIcoot. My 'coots are the pride of my collection; I bought them until the secondary market price rose above what I was willing to pay (but even though I won't buy at that price, it's not high enough for me to sell mine, which somehow doesn't seem logical). Anyway, for a knife that I wasn't sure I'd even order one of when it was released in the Razorganzaaaaa, I've grown to really like MODs and was happy to adopt another.
