Can you believe it? http://toolmonger.com/2008/01/21/breaking-news-sears-and-craftsman-split/

I went to Sears mainly for Craftsman hand tools! Will they be everywhere now (attention K-mart shoppers, Craftsman blue light special in aisle...) and will the quality improve or go down? time will tell...

This is not necessarily a bad thing. All they have said is they will give craftsman more autonomy which means they may do more in house manufacture which could be a good thing. I like craftsman tools. My friend is a snap on/mac junkie but craftsman is much like Scrapyard in the best value for the price /lifetime warranty business plan.

Hopefully their power tools will get as good as their wrenches etc.

There is a tool blog and this is the first I am hearing about it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />

I read it from the multitool forum myself, just passing it along for discussion here.

What worries me is do any big separations work out good? For the betterment of the product for us? IMO it means a break down in quality and service that parent companies provided in the past.

Their not selling/making the profits so new people come in and cut corners and change things that make it worst. I'm just going by the history I know/have been through...

Same here. If I can't easily use the warranty service on my tools, than I don't want them. At least not that brand.

Doesn't Sears own Kmart? I saw the Craftsman logo on the local Kmart and wasn't too suprised. I do hope we don't see the end of the Craftsman guarantee.

Kmart owns Sears! and you guys bring up a good point, with them leaving,
will Sears still honor the old warranty on craftsman tools?! and for how long?!

I really don't know what to think on this issue... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

It's weird enough just seeing Craftsman tools at Kmart! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

My dad always used Craftsman so to me Sears & Craftsman are the same.

On a funny side note, one of the first knives I made, I used a Craftsman file for the blade, and when finished you could still see the logo. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I always wondered what would happen if it broke and I took it to Sears for a replacement... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I actually sold the knife, so at some point I guess it could still happen. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
