i know that the ffbm tests have alright been mentioned. i just can't believe how many high quality blades vary so much in strength and busse gets the top two spots. even if i or someone else doesn't like the tests, it is all there to veiw and look what those knives did. ?? i look forward to seeing more tests of other makers. the tanto and A1 also did very well. it is nice to see how they compare to the similarly sized S6.

I'm very glad that Noss has the time and resources to do those test. I always enjoy seeing the results, and on a couple of occasions the tests have helped me in making blade buying decisions. I always look forward to more test. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I haven't watched the FFBM test videos on Noss' site, but I read the descriptions of the results of the "tests." Quite frankly I was amazed that the FFBM, let alone any knife, could handle the beating that Noss dealt out to it! I am afraid I must say that I WAS ok with the idea of never owning a Battle Mistress, but after reading about what Noss did to it and how it basically spat in his face and asked for more, I do not want a Battle Mistress, I NEED one!

I'm still OK with not owning a Battle Mistress......as long as I can get my hands on a Dogfather GC <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I'm also OK with never owning a Battle Mistress. It's just more knife than I'd ever need or use. For that matter, the Dog Father is more knife than I'll ever need or use. But the price was right, so I couldn't resist.
If I was going to buy a Busse knife, I'd get an ASH-1. Can you imagine the beating noss would have to give that .320"-thick beast to break it? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> it is tempting

I like both the FFBM and the ASH-1, but the FFBM is one big heavy knife.
The ASH-1 is a little bit more versatile. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I do have to agree, the ASH-1 is a bit more practical, and available, than the FFBM. Both are still out of my price range though. I guess since I already have both versions of the Dog Father, I see the next step up from those (as far as BIG knives are concerned) an FFBM. I think we all agree that any Busse kin knife is awesome!

that test was INSANE! noss wasa going crazy when he cut through that first piece of steel tubing. It was great. scrapyards are amazing too (especially when you consider the price) and I'm glad to own them, although I would like maybe one or two busse's, maybe FFMB or FBM.

if he had sharpened the blade after beating it would that have saved it or at least allowed it to last even longer?

Nope.
The steel in the weld would be as hard as it possibly could be, having cooled from molten and not being tempered. So you end up with a relatively soft item (the FFBM) being pounded between the hammer and the weld. It was only a matter of time until the FFBM gave out.
JYD#10 Blade '08 - I challenge coined Dan Busse and WON! Blade '10 - The score is now 2-0!
