The SS4 I got had a larger gap than that. I filled it with 50 year clear silicone caulk. Problem solved.

This knife will be a user, so my primary concern is not cosmetic. My concern is the potential for rust and other problems that I can't see and take care of promptly. If many others have had this same issue on your users without problems, then I will not let it bother me.

I don't think it will pose an issue, and you can always stick a toothpick in there to clean it and then drip some oil in there every once in a while.

I still say you should send it to me though!

You could always send a PM to Dan and ask about the risks.

The tangs are fully coated, so moisture shouldn't be a concern unless some serious trauma manages to take off coating under the handle.

Now that you've said that ColdOne,that the tangs are always coated...I was thinking already a few times about how's that with the uncoated LE blades?
Do you or anybody else know if they have a sort of coating or rust inhibiter on the tang?

Alex

Hello AllCheck!

It's easy to see that you must be very good at your job.

I would have NEVER caught that blip of Res-c . It appears as if there is one machine at Scrap Yard that has a dye problem. I checked all my blades and found
a identical flaw on my Yard Hook!

I would NEVER have looked there for it and would have seen it and looked past it if you hadn't posted the photos of it.

You know what I paid for mine brand new from Dan and I got well more than what I paid for in my opinion. The fact that there is a dye that isn't butting the width of a toothpicks head I will overlook.
Because I have the meanest toughest use knife in the world. The Yard Hook.
I have cherished mine since the first day it came and this fashion flaw only give it character for me. This will NOT effect the longevity or performance of the knife in any way.
My advice is keep the tip away from your face, and enjoy the heck out of that heavy duty beast you own.!

If it really bugs you you could P.M. me and I will pay you what you have in it plus shipping and take the eyesore away from you!

I just checked my YKCG and it's got a little gap kinda like that too. I don't see it as being a problem though, so I'm not going to worry about it. I really can't imagine rust being an issue there, as long as I keep it relatively clean and dry.

I took one of mine out of the plastic and it's got a gap on both sides too; I'll have to take a look at the others. I wonder if that's why Swamp Rat stopped doing Res-C...

Anyway, I'll probably just buy a little tube of Permatex black silicone sealant/RTV at AutoZone and fill in the gaps; that'll cost less and be less bother than sending knives back.
