I get the joke, but is there a rule about not mentioning other possible materials?

If not, what metals are you folks hoping for?

no rule, just it ain't happening! or most likely will never happen. but the boss says you never know! I used to think about other steels here but after learning how good SR-77, SR-101 and INFI are, why would I want others!

i've been wonderin what dan meant since that day myself. "less than 30" never seemed to be resolved, either.

SR77 qualifies as numbers and letters, but i want some closure. manly.

Right, ok, now we're getting somewhere.

I'd like to see H1, but seems like most of the time when I see numbers and letters references they mean D2 or some such. Which is fine as well, I've just been taken with the whole "never rusts" business. My knives have a knack for getting goopey at certain times of year.

Guess time will tell. *shrugs*

remember SY's motto is; "Superior Performance To Price Ratio" (as it says on your coin) so getting other materials and the expense that would take would probably make the cost go up. SR-77 is not only a great steel for hard use but it is cost effective for Dan, and he always passes the savings down to us, it's one of the main reasons we're here! that a seeing rooikats godzilla/monster shots...

you know if you can find the old posts by scrap yard knives, that was the name of the poster, i don't know if it was trash can, dan, or someone else registered with that name, but any how they stated scrap yard would use other steels

I was pretty impressed with you putting the Camillus sell off with the numbers and letters thing BLD. We know the Busse boys were at the auction and the time is right. It is hard to imagine a steel with les chromium than 52100 because it stains so fast but the vanadium would help. I am not sure where CarbonV would be better than S7 or 52100 both of which Busse already uses. Maybe for a small knife it would be worth trading a bit of toughness for some edge holding but then why not just use 52100?

The big reason I would have for not thinking it was Carbon V is the Busse kin would not want to use a steel that is associated with inferior knives like CS and Camilluss. I like the CarbonV and Camilluss blades especially the Beckers but have always considered the Scrapers and Rats to be better. Even if the Yard had much better heat treating it would not be good for the brand.

I would much rather see some 52100/res -c small knives from the yard. A 52100 SS4 would rock.

is something stainless like 154cm out of the question???

while i am definitely not a steel expert by any means i dont know if i want any "numbers and letters"

to me that might mean "stainless steel".i buy Busse family products for their toughness and i have never heard of a particularly strong stainless compared to the high carbon stuff.

the only knife i can picture them doing in a stainless is a small one.i dont need stainless protection because they come coated unless their whole idea is to make it un-coated which they still did with SR77 anyways in the LE's

what would be the advantage to stainless???

i think it would take away from the SYKC reputation for toughness, although it doesnt necessarily mean it will be stainless but if your not going stainless why go with anything else other that SR77,SR101 or INFI.

i dont get it,but if he bought it i'm sure he plans to use it.time will tell and i have faith that i wont be let down.

who knows????

I wouldn't say carbon V is inferior on the level it's at it's a pretty good steel. Heat treating is a big factor in the performance of a given steel. It would be interesting to see what Dan could do with it using there heat treating protocol.

JYD#14 Do you need one, of course you do it's a knife and you like knives.....
