Today, things seem to be working. After repeated chicken blood sacrifices and much ritual, I think I can post pics again. Here they are, two very similar knives: ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper007.jpg) Here, the HR does some fine cutting and slicing. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper008.jpg) The YK does just as well. Both knives are hair popping sharp. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper009.jpg) Now to try and dull them by beating them through some oak with a baton: ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper010.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper011.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper012.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper013.jpg) After a fair amount a such abuse, both knives would still slice just fine. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper014.jpg) Both would still notch wood very well. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper015.jpg) I can't tell much difference, except that the YK has more edge for batoning. Both of them cleaned up just fine. No Swamp Rat or Scrap Yard knives were injured in this test. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper016.jpg) For all practical purposes, these knives are the same. I could not tell them apart except for the choil on the HR and the logo on the YK. Both are outstanding, tough little knives.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Yeah, I'm afraid there is not much to report here. Maybe if I sliced 1000 pieces of hemp rope or something, the SR101 would out do the SR77, but the original Howling Rat and the new CG Yard Keeper are pretty much the same knife. Since both knives are about 3/16" thick, the difference in cutting between the high saber grind on the HR and the full flat grind on the YK were not noticable by me. All the "Howlers" are just plain useful knives. Even the thick as a brick YKLE does fine once you thin the edge some. The design isn't sexy or fancy. It just works. You know what they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Since I missed out on the original HR, I am glad I was able to get in on the YKCG. I agree, they look almost identical.

I like the Howlers. The Scrap Yard Keepers are an affordable alternative to the HRLM. I like them all. They are as rugged as you can get in knives that size. ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper017.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]](http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w64/rivershaman/YardKeeper018.jpg)

Great review, Vic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
I'm not surprised by the outcome, makes me really glad I was able to get a YKCG.
Only bad thing is now I wish I had 2. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

There is a reason the YK sold out fast. It's a great knife at a good price. If I had known for sure that Dan was going to offer a 3/16" thick CG version, I wouldn't have bought the HR. But at least I have both to compare. I'm hoping Dan will bring us a Scrapper Camp Tramp so I don't have to get one of those on the aftermarket!

Cheer's for that Vic !
I still prefer the Howlers with them having a larger choil...to me a large choil or none at all is the way to go, however I prefer the full flat grind on the YKCG !
By the way, I missed your little test's Vic, glad your back !!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
