Great review, Vic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I'm not surprised by the outcome, makes me really glad I was able to get a YKCG.

Only bad thing is now I wish I had 2. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Thanks, Jeff. There is a reason the YK sold out fast. It's a great knife at a good price. If I had known for sure that Dan was going to offer a 3/16" thick CG version, I wouldn't have bought the HR. But at least I have both to compare. I'm hoping Dan will bring us a Scrapper Camp Tramp so I don't have to get one of those on the aftermarket!

A big plus one there! I've been tempted by several CT's I've seen for sale over the past few months myself, I'm trying to control myself though, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> in hopes of a SYKCO version. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Interesting results, Vic. Prior to your test, the only advantage SR101 claimed to have over SR77 was edge retention. But according to your test results, that claim doesn't hold true. That raises some challenging questions, wouldn't you agree?

My test was not a scientific test of edge retention, Bruce, just a comparison under typical use. Both blades were still nice and sharp after hammering them through the oak limb. The SR101 may indeed have better edge retention, but I doubt that most users will ever know. Maybe some of our Canadian brothers can skin a couple of moose or bison and see which one needs sharpening first!

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I was thinking exactly the same thing this morning !
I have posted many pics of my DM on this forum so you will have seen how used it is starting to look, but the strange thing is that I still haven't sharpened the blade !!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
When Scrapyard started up I checked all the charts comparing steels and was a little concerned about S7 in regards to it's edge retention....I worry no more !!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I am not positive as it has been several years ago, but I believe I paid around $80.00 for mine, which included the sheath. I eventually traded with another Swamp Rat member for a Camp Tramp! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Another fine post Vic! Keep 'em coming.. sr77 edge retention may be a little better relative to sr101 than I thought.
