The Javalina'a that I have encountered are actually prettty cool little animals. They can be quite mean when they want to, but my experiences with them have been a non-issue. They are a very hearty animal. They live in the desert and cruise around in the summer, any beast that does this has my respect.

Nice pics, Jeeps. I guess February is good month for Arizona desert hikes. I like to do my outdoor stuff in winter, too. Those cacti are huge! Looks like your yoots had a good time.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

HAHA. Let's see, my wife's friend was attacked by some Javalina's a couple weeks ago while she was jogging in the desert. She thought she was "going to die", but she kicked at one of them and then they lost interest. We have some really cute scorpions and some big desert toads. My dog likes to toss around the toads and then he foams at the mouth for a good 2 hours. Will he ever learn? He gets bit by scorpions quite a bit on his nose as well. We have bobcats and mountain lions, but I have yet to see one while out on a hike. They probably see my Scrap Yard knife and cower in fear . I did see a nice bobcat while I was in Kali over Christmas, wow, what a treat. Don't forget the tarantulas and giant poisonous centipedes!

But the Tarantulas are cool. Here is one I found up at about 7500 feet which surprised me. He was a cute little guy although I would not want him crawling around in my sleeping bag. What was cool was that this pic was at the last 2 miles of a 12 miles hike and I was more tired than he was. He looked like he was on a mission. Not sure who sent him, but he was determined and not worried about me. ![[Linked Image from i88.photobucket.com]](http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k185/rteagard/Survival/10-23-07_Pictures_381.jpg)

Good times, Ron. Those saguaro sure are more fun to play with than the cholla! Last time I was in the desert with my dog, he chased a rabbit and wound up looking like a filled pin cushion after running into the wrong type of cactus.

Cool pics, looks like fun!
I have a Dumpster Mutt LE on its way to me right now. Traded my Yardkeeper LE for it. Practically the same knife but I wanted a bit more handle.

Great pics Jeeps!
I'm always amazed by the size of those Cacti.
I looked for Tarantulas both times that I've been to the Southwest and never saw any, I did see Scorpions though at night using a UV light, now that was cool!

I hate to break it to you, but I think the handle on the DMLE is actually a tad smaller than the handle on the YKLE. The Busse Basic is supposedly smaller than the Res-C Small. Someone asked about taking callipers to them both a week (or so) ago. If nobody did it yet, perhaps I'll take the cord-wrap off my DM tonight and check it out.
