Forums look a little slow tonight. I had posted this a few months ago or weeks - I can't keep track anymore. But, it was within another thread. Same again today within another thread. So, I thought I would give it it's own thread.

I am a HUGE fan of the SS4 and I really like the smaller spear-point blade of the AD. The AD is nice, but I don't like the Talon hole and over-sized choil. (I have probably said that before.....). I start getting more picky about smaller blades. I really like 3.5" - 4.5" blades and little details start to matter to me. The SS4 is VERY hard to fault. - Only significant issue to me being the coating, but I "mostly" took care of that.
Generally on a smaller blade, I would rather not have a finger choil and would rather have a very small guard and VERY small choil. I tend to use the blade edge up very close to my grip and tend to not like not being able to...
I am not real convinced that I would consider the smaller Res-C handle great for a smaller blade. As it is, I happen to like the Mudder grip better for smaller blades anyway. I think the Mudder handle is VERY nice IMO. However, I think the Mudder handle almost seems to need a "functional" finger choil. So, my concept has a small finger choil. I think it would still be an awesome smaller task design.

Hopefully, it will catch some attention!

This and the Scrap-Weiler concept rank pretty high on my Scrap Yard wish list for me.

I find I prefer a slightly shallower blade edge for task use. So even though I like the SS4 a LOT, I would be all over this concept for a knife that would get a LOT of use from me.

If the SS4 has a 4.1" blade from top of mudder grip to tip, the SS-3.5" would have about a 3.5" blade and more spear point like the AD.

Personally, I would "WISH" for this in INFI and SATIN. But, there are other good steels for a knife this size. Although, I am not real interested in SR-77 for this size knife. (Just my opinion )

I Definately want SR-77 for the Scrap-Weiler though.

Anyone with me on this 3.5" Concept based on the AD?

Except for making the choil smaller, yes, that's a great concept.

I LOVE my SS4, and it sees a lot of use. Part of the reason for that is the versatility of grip positions that the larger choil affords. That's not the only reason I like the blade, but it is one of the most important.

And I do agree that a satin version of the SS4/SS3.5 would be more appealing, no matter what steel.

I would get one if Dan were to come out with it.

I like both of these designs. My only comment on choils is if they exist, then they should be big enough to use. Not sure if mudder grips drive up costs, I suspect they may at least slightly. For that reason and in keeping with Dan's p to p concept, a regular size (like the size on the YKCG) res-c handle would be fine for me even though I agree the mudder grip is very nice. I would buy 2 of these if they came out, one for each of my boys when they get older of course .

I try to be careful about the little details and yet I accidentally messed up the size of the choil. The SS4's choil is sized perfectly for a functional use finger choil. My intent would be to have the same choil on the 3.5" AD concept.

I changed the picture posted to show how I intended it to look with the same size choil.
