Saturday I went out and had a little fun with 4 of my most used choppers. I have a bunch others but these guys see the most action. I never use them one after the other, so this was a good comparison for me. I did try to run a "chop count" but lost count a few times and said the heck with it. I posted this at BF's as well on saturday I believe.

Here's the 4(FFBM, DFLE, CGFBM, HI-AK)

My favorite were the FFBM and the DFLE. As far as "what would I carry on a camping trip?-Jack of all trades?". It would be tuff as I really love my CGFBM as it really is a great knife, but the DFLE makes it difficult as it grew on me. It really stood out to me, not only for how much I enjoyed using it, but with the lanyhard I chocked back on it and it did much better. It still didnt chop with the FFBM but it kept up well with the CGFBM. The DFLE was the lightest of the bunch

For a pure chopper the FFBM is fantastic but it a little heavy to carry around on the hip, but on a pack it would be more comfortable imho. The one I was least impressed with was the AK. Not because it didnt chop well...it sent chips a flying and never got stuck, I just couldnt enjoy the handle due to its size and how it kept slipping. I was wearing gloves and it was slipping, I did not have this issue with the others. I had used the AK, alot before but it was not in prolonged chopping but de-limbing and splitting, and I think I'll keep using it for those purposes.

One thing is for sure....that resperine sure is comfortable. I cant wait to get my CGDF and see how it stacks up. Any input is appreciated or questions.

Outstanding bunch of choppers, barrabas74! Did you really think anything could out chop the fatty? I think that you will find the DF CG to be just a bit better than the FBM because of the handle. I can see from your pics that you are not afraid to put an edge on your blades. I think the new DFLE is the best all-around chopper ever made. Good job. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

awesome choppers!
the DFLE (and I'm sure the CGFBM) are great all around knives.
the HI looks like it took some deep bites into wood, but I never thought the handles looked to great for chopping, especially the bone ones, they look kind of slick.

awesome.

Thanks for posting the results. Looks like you had a great time. There are very few big knives that can outchop the FFBM. The one that can do it out of the box is the FBMLE because of better geometry. So did the CGFBM outchop the DFLE? I am curious to find out.

I have a full convexed CGDF that I will put up against the FBMs next time I go do some chopping. It proved to be a excellent chopper so far.

BTW, put a nice convex edge on that CGFBM and it will outchop a stock FFBM.
