Does anyone else watch survivor? My wife and I used to watch it but after about 12 seasons of the same thing it got boring. Started watching this season last week. So anyone vaguely familar with the show knows they take these guys and gals and dumps them somewhere remote. They have to make their own shelters, they have to start their own fires.

If I was going to be on this show, I would be fine. I'm guessing most of the people on this forum would be fine. But if i was city born and raised and never stepped foot off the asphault and was going to be on a show like this i might try to prepare myself. Say go camping for a weekend. Maybe pick up and idiot's guide to backwoods survival.

Learn how to make a temporary shelter, and start a fire. Atleast these two things please.

So as the game progresses they have competitions and the winner usually gets a prize. Say food, or blankets, fishing gear, etc. The first tribe to win got a magnesium firestarter. Camping 101. They still couldn't start a fire. As they ignored it, I guess they didn't realize the block of shiney metal stuff the flint was buried in was flamable, b/c they totally ignored it. Then the guy takes the machete they were given and starts chopping at the flint at a 45 degree angle like he was sharpening a stake. he ended up chopping and destroying half the flint, and still didn't get a fire started.

pathetic.

In short, you are dealing with idiots with this program. It is amazing that no one has been killed yet with how stupid they act. They must have some training in the begining, but like you said, they ignore it. I htink they do not understand where they are at and think they are on a picnic.

I see this type of thing when I am in Kenya. The majority of the students come unprepared and think that they are at the zoo. We have had a few close calls with survival and they did not even know what to do nor had the equipment to do it with. We had to rely on my knife and kit.

If I were on Survivor I would build the shelter and the fire, hoard the women (cute ones only) and eat the men!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Good God that is pathetic, I never watch Survivor, I get sick when I hear them complain about stupid little things. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbdn.gif" alt="" />

and it's strange how the producers pick women who by and large seem to have work done, if you know what i mean. which seems nice at the beginning when they are running around in bikinis all the time, but by the end when they've lost 10% of their already thin body weight, it starts to look like a softball in a sock.

not good.

not good unless you've had a hard day and need a mean laugh.

Agreed. What really chaps my butt, (have recently ranted on this topic) is how the rules/strategies actually encourage maladaptive behavior. In that all the backstabbing, voting off the strong, championing weaknesses etc is counter-productive to a survival situation. I dislike the show and all of its kind.

My decision to never buy crap has paid off.

I dispise survivor. In each group they seem to put someone "strong"(ex military etc)
Usually the person knows very little but acts like they know alot(like the idiot with the firestarter).
I have never really watched it but one time I did and the "guru" of the group bent over a fire and pased out, that was the same guy I just listened to talk about how good he was at survival.
The show is a sham, I think they should have a real Survivor with actual survivalists and woodsman on it.
Not a Les Stroud or Bear Grylls hotel survival show but one were they put real woodsman in the woods and see who lasts the longest.

I wouldn't say les stround and bear grylls are not real outdoorsmen.
