i was thinking that, hd. spyderco makes the ball lock. probably wouldn't make it in sr77, which kinda defeats the point.
now if dan and jerry could just make the blades and spyderco handled the rest, that would rock. that ball lock is rock solid. there's nowhere for anything to go unless you have the intention to make it so. Well, since no folder could be as strong as a solid piece of SR77, the handle and joint would fail long before the blade, so why bother using that steel at all? Maybe INFI, since it is corrosion resistant. I like your folding DM, but a folding Meaner or SS4 would be great, too.

yeah, the ZT warranty is no questions asked. you break it, you get a new one. at the njkca meetings i've handled plenty of striders. i liked the smaller ones (sng?) but some were so clunky and impractical i was really turned off. finish is pretty rough, too. for the money, i'd rather have several spydercos without the camo paint job.

my problem is this and it is probably my problem alone.
where is the scrapyard equivalent to a folder??? a lot of people will say that if you need strength like that to carry a fixed blade.i dont want to wear a knife on my belt.i want a folding knife with a pocket clip.
i know that BM and strider and ZT make some heavy duty folders but i want something STRONG.
call me nuts but i want a folder with a 1/4in blade and titanium liners almost just as thick.i want a pivot system that is so [censored] strong it hasnt even been fathomed yet.
and while i realize that it will be very thick i dont want it to be huge.8-9in opened, frame lock and why cant a folders blade be made with some type of steel with a rep for strength to go along with the edge holding.can we make a folder with tool steel or is that a crime.let me worry about the corrosion,i'm sick of stainless blades.would INFI make too much sense????
i want the ASH-1 folder or the CGDM folder just not in those lengths.thats too long.
i'm sure blade-tech makes a good knife but are they busse kin quality???
i mean did they bump it up a notch for the rat trap???i dont know,i've never held one.a blade-tech knife with the swamprat name on it just doesnt add up to me. as cool as it is.folders and fixed blades are two different worlds but it couldve been kept in the same ballpark.
almost every single little corner and niche of the knife game/market has been filled in at least a dozen ways.a folder as gaudy,mean,scary,thick,memorable,un-mistakable,legendary and undisputed as the FFFBM,CGDF OR ASH-1 has still yet to show.when it does i will be their with my credit card in hand and 3-4 of them in my cart.
i have heard that a man with faith the size of a mustard seed can move a mountain........but i've also heard that it is easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter heaven........glad i'm not him. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/loopy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/loopy.gif" alt="" />

The problem is one of leverage. There are folders capable of batonning, where most of the force is directed to the back of the blade. I even did a little batonning with my dejavoo, which is not as tough as my Skirmish. It did just fine with no damage. But lateral strength is the problem. No matter how tough or thick the blade itself is, in lateral force, like prying, the blade acts as a lever to pry apart the handle right at the joint or pin. The longer the knife, the greater the mechanical advantage and force that is applied to the joint. From what I can see in the pictures, ZT has addressed this area of weakness with a massive bolt for a pin and very strong liners. It looks pretty beefy to me.

by the way, we're all rich men. I wish, now mag and northern talk to me. I know a lot of people hate Dark ops but it is a quarter inch thick with a lock and a sfaty on the lock. I have seen pics of a guy standing on the knife handle with no lock faliure. I have even seen a pic with the knife on it's side and he stood on it to test lateral strength. don't you think this would be a very tough knife?

probably. i know i'd hate to be caught with a weak folder when i need to jam a knife into a cliff wall for use as a spring board so i can dive into a canyon river...from a thousand feet.
then i'll be wishing the blade, handle, bushings, pivot screw, and washers are made of sr77. Boinggggg.

If you guys were going to carry a folder with you for a week long trip to Germany what would it be? The blade cannot be resharpened during the trip and must take general use. Also sheeple friendly.
