Yeah I thought (from what little I read about it) that Ontario did them wrong. BUT as they say there is always two sides of every story.

Ok, so I was at south coast plaza (woman wanted to go to vic secrets). 1 hour later, we stopped by Plaza Cutlery. I had never handled the knives there, and so I was able to fondle a few, including a Strider SMF / SMG. Oh my, now I'm thinking about getting a strider. I guess I have a thing for linerless scales. I really liked the sng cc. It was a sexy knife with good ergos. I do wish they had flippers, but I prefer the "hole" to thumbstuds on my folders. Holes don't get caught on things when I'm cutting. so much for 0777 being the end of the line. Although, the 0777 is in a different class than the strider, the strider just seems... tougher.
Oh, and they have the smg in Z-wear steel. That doesn't help!!!

I've been edc-ing my Buck Vantage Pro here for the last four weeks. Solid little blade, S30V, G10 scales, flicks open almost as easy as an assisted. I've felt a little safer with that in my pocket on a few ocassions here. There's a lot of crazies in Taiwan, and I seem to be a crazies magnet.

When I traveled Europe for 3 months, I carried camera gear with me, including a big fat carbon fiber monopod almost everywhere I went. I usually left 1 section extended because it was easier to carry propped on my shoulder. I'm sure it helped me not be a target.
I want to go to asia for my next international outing, including Taiwan. Have locking folders been legal everywhere in your trip, DT?

It's not defensive, I use it to eat my fruit.

I believe the laws are screwy. Can't carry at night or in a train station without good cause. What is that cause? For me, it's "I eat fruit and need a way to cut it." No one really much cares from what I can tell. I wouldn't bring a big blade--the Vantage was a little bigger than I'd wanted, but of my folders, I felt it best met my needs. The fact that you can buy anything under the sun from swords to switchblades doesn't mean they're legal <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

The crazy thing I've found is that regardless of the laws, you can buy just about anything openly and cheaply in all of the places I've been--mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand (if I recall)...but again, that doesn't make it "legal."

thats the difference between owning and carrying.
don't want to give the cops a reason to bust you. but if you do get busted for something, finding that knife on you would make everything a lot worse.
