Well I just came back from decontruction of wood palettes.

It was fun, I used my RMD and my FFFBM. Mostly my FBM cuz it's extremely friggin' thick. But the RMD was actually pretty decent.

There's still half a palette of decent wood left. So I could destroy some more. WHOO!!!!!!

I need some wood pallets.

As I promised yesterday, this is gonna be a very woody post. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Here was what I did yesterday. 1 wood palette.

The technique that I used was:

First loosen up the board with the RMD.



No damage.



Then take the FFFBM for the really heavy prying.



This board was being a little stubborn...so I went to plan B...DESTROY!!!!!

The pictures speak for themselves.









After that I had several leverage points so I easily took of the wood and bent the nails, etc, etc.

OK... so then I decided to see what the FBM could handle. There were two thick boards stuck together, by nails. I was able to pry it apart and the wood literally just tore.

Oh and I also wasn't very careful during all of this and constantly scraped the tip of the FFBM into nails and, once, straight into a rock...it's fine...fat tip!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

BTW... don't try this with any other knife. You might actually get it out of alignment. During all of this, I was able to bend the FFFBM, very thick, way beyond 30 degrees. It bent way beyond what I was comfortable for it to bend. Both are extremely flexible though. Good thing they are too. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

Yes... 30 degrees. Maybe more. I kind of bent it to the point where most knives that are 1/4 thick would have snapped. It was bent pretty far. I actually thought I would bend the blade permanently but it didn't happen. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

way to work that blade, the fbm is a pry bar as thick as it is

Yes, I'd think something that is 5/16 in thick would definitely be a pry bar. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Only problem is the tip of the FBM is waaaay too fat to fit into any crevice...that's what the RMD is for. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I hope this little mini review will put all your fears of prying things with a Busse Kin Knife, tip or blade, to rest. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

A misdirected jump and you'll be seeing a bunch of stitches. That FFBM will definitely leave a mark.

No worries, I just did it for the heck of it, knowing the knife can't ever fail (under the conditions that I will pit it through). I did take precautions in wedging the knife in tight and jumping correctly. I've had far too many little accidents with knives (small itty bitty annoyingly painful papercut-like cuts) to seriously falter and receive a really harsh accident.

I hope you guys won't take me as some incompetent fool for just doing a little fun test - extremely pointless, I admit - with extra precautions to safety. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Well Sharp, all I can tell ya (being officially an "old guy") is that you'll look back at some point in your life and realize that many of the times you did risky stuff and escaped injury/arrest was because you weren't good, but rather just plain lucky. And luck is an undependable thing. I'd hate to see ya get hurt.

Just a little side note, I've learned, long ago -- from... I guess my own experience...-- that I can't depend on luck in every situation of my life. Handling a knife is surely never gonna be an exception (though I admit, in my younger days, I've been foolish, as we all have).

That poor shipping palette. It could have been used for many more years before you you KILLED IT !!! It's always fun to destroy things with toughest knives. Very Cool !!

Actually, what surprised me the most wasn't the FFFBM's lateral strength but the tip strength of the RMD. There was absolutely no tip breaking or bending. I was very surprised for such a thin profiled knife. I was able to do some heavy prying with just the tip of the RMD.

The RMD is, by far, one of the most useful knives I've held. It's thin enough for slicing. Thick enough for prying (I've actually stood on it, it's strong!!), strong tip, good steel/heat treatment, high sabre grind, and just the right size.

Really, the RMD is about your perfect medium sized fixed. I hope you can get yourself a good deal on an RMD.

I love my RMD as well. I really can't decide which one I like more, the FBM, big hunk of pure chopping power, or the RMD, a ridiculously ergonomic extremely well rounded knife that could pretty much replace most knives (I may be a little biased, but it is the perfect size, thickness, broadness of blade, weight, handle comfort, etc. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> , not to mention how well balanced it is), including my FBM ( how is that even possible <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I have no idea, the RMD just is).

You should start taking the RMD with you on your hikes with Maisy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
