The first, and most common reason some people don't like PayPal is that they force you to provide more personal bank account/credit card access than many people are comfortable providing. Additionally, if a person passes a threshold of money coming into their account, PayPal starts charging them fees -- I think it's currently 3%.
Another issue is more political; PayPal's acceptable use policy has fairly strict rules governing use of PayPal to purchase Firearms, Weapons, and Knives. They claim the right to prohibit payments for firearms unless they specifically authorize the purchase, as well as for items that they define as weapons and certain types of knives (such as automatics), even if buying them is legal in your area or if you, individually, are licensed to own those items. It's effectively like your bank or credit card issuer telling you what you are or aren't allowed to buy.
I see others have responded while I was composing and attempting to recover from a dropped Internet connection -- gotta love AT&T.

PayPal just charges you 3% to accept a credit card payment - something that you would ordinarily not be able to do.

I try not to use Paypal for the reasons stated here. I get my MO's from the bank not the post office. The bank doesn't charge me anything for the MO and it's as easy to track and handle as a personal check. It takes the post office about 6 months to handle a problem with a money order.
If I buy a knife through a personal transaction I provide a personal contact #, an address (not a PO Box), an email address (not just a PM on a forum). I require the same from the seller. If its a legimate sale they won't mind providing this information.
This doesn't guarantee you won't get ripped off but it does help.

Mailing to a PO Box isn't a problem. I just like to have a phyical address also. I wish everyone was as good to do business as you are (Tony). Besides, when I buy a knife from someone I consider that person a new friend. I want a phone # and phyical address so if/when I'm in that persons part of the world I can call them and see if they have time to talk knives or politics or whatever over a quick drink.
