Hey everyone! I'm completely new to Scrap Yard knives so bear with me... Why offer a doublecut finish on a work/duty knife if it is known to be more prone to corrosion? I look forward to learning as much as i possibly can from y'all... thanks!

Hmmm, this has got me scratching my head a bit. Trying to figure out what the advantage of DC is other than being non-reflective. Looks nice, sure, but for anything I see myself doing with it...I'm just not convinced.

That's not to say it wouldn't be the cat's meow for others, and I wish everyone the best on Sunday, but I'll likely sit this one out.

Sure hope we see some stainless SYKCOs soon.

Must have been posting at the same time as I was, I have the same questions on this knife.

Thanks Dan!

The end: MANY people prefer the DC finish over a coated blade.
Although it does not provide as much corrosion ressistance.
It doesn't take that much to keep the rust off.

Here is a quote from Justin of Ranger knives....

The bead blast finish is fairly easy if you have the set up for it. The biggest thing is having the compressor that can keep up. Other than that it is just like sand blasting just a different material or medium is being used. Cons the main one is that is opens the poors in the steel so it will rust a little more quickly than a satin or mirror finished blade. Hope that helps!

Just remember though that a little rust is only cosmetic and will not affect the performance of the blade !!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Nick... when you say many people prefer the DC, is it purely based on appearance or is there something else i'm missing?

Yeah that's my whole point... if you're not worried about the cosmetics of your knife, why not go for a coated knife with no rust

The End - this will be a great first Scrapper for ya! I've got 3 Mutts in 2 variations already, and I'm assuming that any of the guys who are "sitting this one out" are doing so because they've already got at least one similar sized scrapper. The full height grind Mutt is a great blade, and the double cut finish is very nice. Welcome to the yard, and make sure you're here "on time" for the release! I suggest setting up an account profile ahead of time (different from your forum username and password, etc.).

Thanks diceman, i just set up an account last night. How fast do new releases normally sell out? From some of the posts i've read it seems like they go pretty fast
